Spotify Access on Google Home for Guests

Spotify Access on Google Home for Guests

Hi there!

We have Google home throughout our residence that we allow guests to access as well. We have linked our Spotify accounts so guests can listen to anything they'd like throughout the home during their stay simply by prompting the Google rather than setting Bluetooth on speakers. The only problem we have encountered is when we are listening to our music elsewhere and then it gets stopped as the Spotify account is being accessed from our house during those stays. Have any other hosts ran in to this problem? If so, do you have any recommendations for solutions or a way to turn on guest mode? Google search engine hasn't been beneficial for us to date.

Many thanks!

Hi @Alden23

I can see why that'd be annoying, have you found a solution since your post? Otherwise, it might be useful to check with Spotify or Google directly, as they might have more tips on how to optimise the use their services. 🙂

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Alden! Was wondering if you were able to solve this since I'm having the same issue and haven't found a workaround yet. Thanks!

It's understandable that simultaneous music playback from different locations using the same Spotify account can be inconvenient. While Google Home doesn't currently offer specific solutions for guest access to Spotify without affecting your own listening experience, here are some options to consider:

1. Utilize Guest Mode (Workaround):

  • Although you mentioned Google search wasn't helpful, Google Home actually does offer a "Guest Mode" feature for controlling privacy and access to certain functionalities. You can enable this by:
    • Opening the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
    • Selecting the desired Google Home device.
    • Tapping the gear icon (Settings) in the top right corner.
    • Choosing Guest Mode.
    • Toggling the switch to "On".

While Guest Mode isn't designed specifically for music playback, it might help in this situation:

  • When enabled, guests won't be able to access your personal information like playlists or saved music.
  • This might discourage them from playing music from your Spotify account when you're actively using it elsewhere.

2. Explore Alternative Music Streaming Services:

  • Consider creating a separate Spotify account specifically for guest use. This would allow them to listen to music without interrupting your playback on your personal account. However, managing an additional account might not be ideal for everyone.
  • You could also explore alternative music streaming services that offer guest access features or multiple simultaneous streams on one account. Some options might include:
    • YouTube Music: Allows family plans with up to six accounts and simultaneous streaming.
    • Apple Music: Offers family plans with up to six accounts and simultaneous streaming.
    • Amazon Music Unlimited: Provides family plans with up to six accounts and simultaneous streaming.

3. Communicate with Guests:

  • Inform your guests beforehand about using your Spotify account and the potential for interruptions.
  • Explain the "Guest Mode" option (if you choose to enable it) and encourage them to use voice commands to minimize interaction with the Google Home device.

Ultimately, the best solution depends on your specific needs and preferences. By trying these options and keeping open communication with your guests, you can hopefully find a way to balance guest access to music streaming with your own listening experience.

Hello AirBnB Community,

I totally get where you're coming from with the Spotify-Google Home issue. It can be frustrating when your music gets interrupted. One suggestion is to check if your Google Home has a "Guest Mode" feature that allows temporary access without affecting your primary usage. If not, you might want to explore Spotify Lite Premium APK as a workaround for smoother sharing experiences without disruptions. It's designed for low-data usage and might just solve your dilemma....Thanks a lot!

@Jerry606 To avoid interruptions when guests use your Spotify account on Google Home, enable **Guest Mode** to protect your personal playlists, and consider setting up a **Spotify Family Plan** or using alternative music services like **YouTube Music** or **Apple Music**, which allow multiple users to stream simultaneously. You can also set up shared playlists for guests and encourage them to use specific voice commands or **Spotify Connect** to control playback from their own devices. Clear communication with guests about how to use the system can help prevent confusion and ensure everyone has a smooth listening experience.

To resolve the issue of guests accessing your Spotify account through Google Home and interrupting your music, you can try using Spotify Premium unlocked with a separate guest account. This way, your personal Spotify account remains unaffected while guests can still enjoy music on Google Home. Alternatively, you could set up a dedicated guest mode or create a playlist specifically for guests to prevent interruptions. Another option is to link a second Spotify account solely for guest access, ensuring your personal music experience is not interrupted during their stay.
