Stolen items by Guest

Hi Everyone,

Just letting you know that a lovely guest by the name of Taylor (and partner unnamed, but he is a "steel fixer")  stole our coffee machine, Dyson Vacume cleaner,  de-humidifier, Table lamp, desk lamps, towels and other items.  She only had 2 reviews, looks young in her profile photos and I did not follow my instinct and decline her request.  She got us in by indicating a "long Stay" and due to lack of bookings (we are still working out our price for the wet, if anyone can help?) she declined a month stay - couldn't pay a month in advance (we checked with AIRBNB) and so stupidly we let her book week to week and then she started booking 3 days at a time, trying to avoid the clean (which is my security check also) sooooo 17 items later, we are around $2 600 out of pocket.  We even gave them a free night and luckily we had another booking coming (who cancelled which was a blessing - because  once our Housekeeper discovered the uncleaned town house and the stolen items, we would not have been able to accomodate the next booking.)   It seemed they tried to get back in to the property - luckily our lovely housekeeper took the keys out and locked everything.  If anyone has had an experience like this I would really appreciate some pointers... 😞   Lynn

You need to follow the process Airbnb outlines for making a claim against guests. Contact the guests about the missing items and ask for costs to replace @Lynn1886

do leave an honest review you can't say items were stolen but you can list items that weren't at the property on checkout .

@Lynn1886 The first thing to do is obtain a police report. There is a special form the police can use to get info on the guests from Airbnb. Make sure you raise an Aircover complaint within the required timescales and then just pray they pay out.

Sorry for your troubles.   Any red flag, and it sounds as if you had plenty,...hit that decline button.   No stays, short or long, without full payment in advance.    No freebies, police report, file charges against them both.   Thieves are the worse.
