Tax Exemption for Military

Has anyone been able to reserve a listing without paying taxes?

The support were really not understanding tax exempt status. Eventually got this response  -

"However, I’d like to clarify that the taxes are automatically calculated by our system.
Unfortunately, there isn't a way for me to manually override or intervene in the system to adjust these charges."

Any assistance will be appreciated.

@Daniel14270 what country were you booking in? I assume not the UK as there is no tax exemption there for the military.

Hi, the USA, I should have put that in my post.

Do you mean as a member of the military you don't have any taxes of any services or products you buy? @Daniel14270

Hi there!  I actually work for the West Virginia state government.  I know in this state, veterans cannot claim a sales tax exemption automatically.  They may possibly receive a discount.  I know some hotels provide active duty and veterans a discount.

About the only time a sales tax exemption could be claimed is if you work for the government and have a fully completed tax exemption certificate from whichever government agency you work for (federal, state, local, etc.).  If a person was active in the military, they may be able to claim sales tax exemption, but still need a completed sales tax exemption certificate.

Taxes are beyond 50 shades of gray!  I’m sure there are other situations in which a sales tax can be exempted, but they have to have that sales tax exemption form completed and provided to Airbnb.

Several states are apart of the Streamlined Sales Tax Government Board including WV.  You can find exemption forms for the states that are apart of this board here: https://www.streamlinedsalestax.org

For other states, you will probably have to go on their tax website to access the sales tax exemption form.

I hope this helps a little!
