Tourist tax going up in Rome?

Hi,

We will be staying in Rome in October, in two different Airbnb, one at the beginning of our trip and one at the end.

I just received a message from our host for our final stay in Rome, telling me that the tourist tax will be going up in October from 3,50€ to 6€ and saying we will need to pay the difference when we get there.

Is this a real thing or is it our host trying to make some extra money on us?

I’m asking because I did not receive a similar message from the host of our first stay in Rome.

Thanks

@Eric7177 It is a real thing and so the host is correct. That said, depending on what the listing says, it is less clear if you are liable for this tax or if the host should pay it. As it is usually collected by the accommodation provide upon arrival I suspect you will have to pay.
