Ugh.

Ugh.

I just had an unfortunate situation. Luckily, this doesn't happen often. Most people can read and abide by my limited rules. They don't try to sneak in under the radar and just do whatever the heck they want to. I wonder what gives some people the idea that this kind of behavior is ok?

My rules specifically say NO PARTIES, EVENTS or GET TOGETHER. I guess now I have to add the word DINNERS too.

Early on, I allowed guests to have a few small parties here but they always always always ended up bad. Too loud, things get broken, too many people here that aren't on the reservation etc etc etc.

This female (pinky) said nothing about a party throughout or messages back and forth. Yet, she arrives today and starts setting up for a party... complete with the happy birthday banner, the balloons, table decorations, food and the 6 bottle liquor bar! She says there will only be 7 people here total even though our limit clearly states a 5 person max.

I go out to tell her they have to leave and the next thing I know I have 4 people yelling at me, telling me it's not a party, it's a "birthday dinner". Then I say NO YOU HAVE TO LEAVE. Mind you, I am losing $625 for a 3 night reservation but I can just see how this is going to go if I let them stay. So now they're calling me a racist and saying they're going to wreck my business with their social media.

I so wish I took pics of all the decorations and their birthday setup. I didn't I was too busy on the phone, on hold with airbnb trying to let them know about this. Sadly, I was told by airbnb that it would be 1.5 hour wait for a human representative.

Meanwhile, they're badgering me for an instant refund. I showed her as I refunded her money and then asked if I could help them carry their things out.

I'm so annoyed that people play the race card so quickly in a situation where they're clearly in the wrong. These are not the first people to show up and start setting up for a party without asking or even mentioning it.

I'm just glad they are gone because I think if I didn't nip this in the bud, it would have gotten out of control very quickly. I am also glad that I am a hands-on host and was able to avoid a potentially huge situation. It's groups of guests like these and long distance hosts who have no idea what's going on at their rental, that ruin airbnb for so many of us.

Sadly, because of their inability to adhere to the rules, i now have three $200 nights, wide open in the middle of my prime summer season. $625 down the drain. UGH.  I doubt that airbnb will to open them back up to allow me to rerent them.

I was on the phone with airbnb while I was telling the guests they had to leave. Any other time, I'd have gotten a rep within 30 seconds but I swear to gawd that the airbnb computerized voice told me it would be 90 minutes before a human would pick up the call! I can't wait 90 minutes while I have a horde of irate black folks in my face screaming that I am a racist! WTF am I to do? I refunded their money in their presence and they finally left.

It could have went an entirely different direction but I did not feel like being on "WORLDSTAR" that night so I held my tongue.

Guests do acknowledge that no guests are on the property unless they are on the reservation...when they agree to the booking... they agree to ALL my rules when they book right?

I had a white woman book for 3 people tonight yet, a black guy and 2 children showed up. I asked them if more people were coming and they said YES. I asked HOW MANY? "ahhh a few more." I quickly texted the booker and asked her WTF? She was going to bring a friend of each of their daughters to "enjoy the arcade and the pool" for 3-4 hours but not stay overnight.

I said, do you go to dave and busters and pay for one person and then tell them you're bringing in 2 more people to play their games because you paid for yourself? WTF PEOPLE? Read my rules. I texted her rule #3 and she just said "sorry".

3. Due to insurance purposes, we only allow paid guests on the premises. All guests must be included on an airbnb reservation. We DO NOT allow our guests to bring their own guests. Sorry but you cannot invite your friends or family over to play in the arcade & swim in the pool.

People will get away with whatever you let them get away with. I'm done letting them get over on me.

In theory, I don't see why Airbnb should block dates in your calendar if the guests were asked to leave for breaking clearly stated house rules that they sign up to as a contract when they book. However, getting anything resolved by CS these days is a massive mission, so good luck! I would definitely give it a go though. You are not in the wrong here. I absolutely do not allow parties at my property and would also have asked guests to leave if they insisted on going ahead with those plans.

Maybe because he threw the guests out without contacting Airbnb. @Huma0

I appreciate it's very likely they were having a larger party but at the time he did so, the number of guests who arrived were under the number he said had booked.  And he didn't alert Airbnb and ask for the booking to be cancelled before evicting them (I appreciate it's harder to get hold of Airbnb at the moment).

@Donald28

What did the guest say was the purpose of her trip  when she booked?

if you attract a lot of party types, why not get the guest to acknowledge via messaging that no parties or additional guests will be allowed on the property other than those who have booked and paid. And that any breaking of this house rule, will lead to the booking being cancelled, resulting in all guests being asked to leave.

You are correct it would have been wise to take video/photo evidence of the party in case the guest complains.

Sorry, I missed that bit. When I said I would have done the same, I mean it, but I would have called Airbnb and asked them to cancel. Besides anything else, that would protect my Superhost status.

I only had one similar situation with guests early on and called Airbnb who sorted it out. But, that was back in the day where you actually got through quickly and got some sensible person on the line.
