Hi! This was posted by a member of our host community on Facebook. I wanted to ask for everyone’s opinion regarding this matter. To my understanding, AirCover will only cover physical damages, losses, and additional cleaning costs. I’ve advised the host to attempt to request money, attaching proof that the property owner was fined due to the commotion that he and his wife caused. If the guest refuses to pay, I told her she may involve Airbnb.
Has anyone here had a similar experience? Would appreciate your feedbacks. Thanks! 💖
Our jurisdiction recently enacted a 3 fine/ 3 strike you’re out rule- $500, $1000, $3500. Because of this I had to really dumb down the definition of a guest and max number of guests/visitors and other rules. I’ve put this info in additional rules, other things to note- licensing info, and on the scheduled booking message. I often get instant bookings that immediate cancel after getting the scheduled booking message. Although I’m losing bookings and income, these guests clearly intended to break the rules, have a party, or have more than 4 guests. These are not the kind of guests I want.
with that said- if the host didn’t have any information in their listing about passing on the fines to guests and the fact the host would even Airbnb a unit that could possibly get a $10K fine, I’m not sure if Airbnb will go after the guest for the $10K. Aircover is actually Airbnb going after the guest for the money, not an actual insurance policy that pays out the $10K. The host may need to take the guest to court instead or file a claim with their STR insurance (if they have one).
I agree. I do the same. My House Rules have become longer and longer for each bad guest i encounter. 🤦🏾♀️
If Airbnb was responsible for the ramifications of crazy human behavior, like a wife attacking her husband, they won't be in business by now. And we hosts wouldn't be paying a mere 3% as a host fee.
Speaking of crazy, I am wondering where and how this establishment came up with that ridiculous 10k punishment fee. That 'member' may living in a crazy place for starters.
Hi Fred! It’s PHP10k which is about 200USD.
