What To Do When Staying At A Place With No Hot Water or < 10 Min Hot Water With Multiple People

I stay at about 30 airbnbs a year. Approximately, 5 times a year I stay at an airbnb that has no hot water at all or has less than 10 minutes of hot water but accommodates say 4 guests. I have this issue more in the US than Europe/Australia and more when I do rural farm stays.

When this has happened, I've messaged the host a couple times. Once it went well, they forgot to turn the hot water tank up because they hadn't had a guest in a bit. The other two times, the host never contacted me back.

A couple times I've tried to deal with it myself, like once I realized the heater had been turned basically off and adjusted it. Two times I looked and saw they had a 10 gallon tank. This made me annoyed because the average single shower is 16 gallons of water, there were 4 guests, not to mention one host wanted you to run the dishwasher before leaving and we started it without realizing the tank couldn't even accommodate that. I do renovations and am aware of the cost of different hot water tanks/options, I understand needing to be mindful about cost but installing a 10 gallon tank in a three bedroom vacation rental is something I consider unprofessional.

A couple times I have put it in the review and even though I worded it neutrally it felt mean. Many times I have just let it be.

I feel no matter what I've done I feel like it is the wrong move. I've felt bad complaining but annoyed when I've said nothing. I've felt mean putting it in the review but deceptive to future guests for leaving it out.

Has anyone else encountered this? If so, how have you managed the situation?

At 10 gallons, that sounds somewhat like an on demand water heater. Maybe?

@Samantha1242 As a host I can say I have twice now forgotten to turn on the hot water. It is easily done especially in those times of year when we have 4 or 5 days between stays and I forget whether or not we switched it off! Luckily we can switch it on from anywhere remotely so, whilst embarrassing it's not a huge issue especially as it heats up in about 10 minutes.
