So I got a funny gift from a guest yesterday: it brightened up my very long day. I don't get gifts often, and when I do it's usually wine (one of the many benefits of living in wine country).
The guests yesterday left me flowers (always a favourite) and this gem:
I was wondering what interesting, cute, funny, or meaningful gifts other hosts had received from their guests.
Hi there
I am sure its a wonderful experience to receive one, never received a gift only good compliments.
I've received chocolates, cookies, flowers and small souvenir and a book so far.
Well after a week or two of some difficult guests who didn't read listing directions, and almost calling it quits from exhaustion, I just had a knock on the door and the little girl staying with her parents handed over some lovely flowers for me! Oh and a bottle of Aussie wine. Just when you are ready to give up, someone shows their appreciation. I've had lovely dinners bought for me, and some yummy macarons all the way from a posh Paris bakery. My pup Curly has had treats bought over from the States, and even some money sent to us to buy him some treats and toys from the UK. It is nice to know that friendly people are still out there with all the bad stories we hear sometimes.
Most notably and very recent....the gift of having my eves troughs cleaned out after he ‘accidentally’ snuck in a lady friend over night. His guilt was enormous and he asked how he could help to make up for it. I really did take advantage of his offer but feel no guilt 😉 lol
Mostly, the best gift is hosting the exceptionally wonderful guests. I smile more in my home and my heart feels a little fuller while sharing my home with them 🙂
OMG on the “co*k” gift in another message....the other message - what a fun piece of great art! Added eyelashes made me laugh...Bahaha!
Thanks for posting!
I had a guest from China give me a book hard bound and written on silk paper in a wooden case.
@Alexandra316I've had a few gifts, mainly from my asian guests.
My favorites are a cute little red and gold good luck charm that is now hanging in my kitchen and a little bottle where the painting is on the inside of the glass, different guests but very nice touches from both.
My European guests tend to give wine/funky beer.
Hi@Alexandra
Fab wee corgi probably related to the Royal corgis 😉
Louise, your pup looks like my Curly when he spots biscuit tins! Curly is an addict of Scottish shortbread, I have to smuggle tins and packets away to the pantry, he literally gets demented from excitement! He even has the waitresses here in town bringing him a pile of little shortbread when I have my coffee. He is shattered if they run out and thinks he has been a bad boy! He is going to get diabetes if I don't reign him in.
Yeah the biscuit tin in the pic was given by a french guest and my pooch know's it's got buscuits in. Even though the biscuits inside are still in wrappers he knows, and everytime i go near the coffee table he comes running over to see if i'm going to open the biscuits.
@Louise231 Adorable! Who could resist?
If that were my house, that buscuit tin would be reduced to its component atoms and the buscuits would be snarfled within a matter of seconds.
Hi@Alexandra
No shortage of shortbread here as we are only 3 miles away from Walkers Shortbread factory😋
@Victoria567 Wow! Is there a distillery next door to complete the idyllic picture you're painting? A match made in heaven.
Hi@Alxandra
Next door to Glen grant Distillery gardens and the Glengrant Distillery, plus 3 other working distilleries.
Set amongst the most beautiful countryside and a wee half mile walk to the majestic River Spey famous for salmon fishing.
We've got a wee 9 hole golf course, the fabulous Station Hotel and near to easy access to the Castle Trail.
We are Scotland’s wee undiscovered secret zone, as we are not heavily publicised by Visit Scotland, who are ever so busy plugging the West coast and the Island of Skye!
@Victoria567 My husband is Scottish, but I've never been. We keep talking about going: I'd really love to. That sounds so amazing... your area looks gorgeous, and definitely a must for whisky lovers. Who doesn't love a little Speyside malt?
