Hi @Adrian17,
You're absolutely right — a balcony and a patio are not the same thing, and for a platform as global and widely used as Airbnb, you'd expect more attention to language accuracy, especially when it affects search filters and guest expectations.
The lack of a dedicated “balcony” or “terrace” filter has been a long-standing frustration for many hosts and guests alike. It’s not just a naming issue — it directly impacts how easily potential guests can find and understand what your listing offers. This is especially important for city apartments or coastal properties where balconies are a key highlight.
It’s good that @Joelle43 pointed out how Airbnb listings sometimes pull from the way rooms or amenities are labeled within your own listing — but that’s just one side of the issue. The bigger challenge is Airbnb’s limited amenity and filter system, which continues to lump outdoor spaces into broad or incorrect categories.
Hopefully, with enough feedback from hosts like you, Airbnb will finally take this seriously in future updates. Until then, you could also mention “balcony” and “terrace” clearly in your title and first two lines of the description, since many guests are skimming those when filters don’t help.
Thanks for raising the point — it’s a small fix with a big impact if Airbnb is willing to act on it.
