Hi everyone!
I want to offer breakfast for after the first night. We did a 'survey' and apparently it is a feature that some guests would like. Especially when they arrive late and next morning everything is closed. We don't have fancy breakfast restaurants here in France. So, I want to propose for a small fee of 6Euros. But how do I introduce that on my account? And, how do you charge that ? Anyone any experience on this matter? I do not live where the apartment is so I can't cook a breakfast for the guests, only leave a breakfast basket for them. I'm thinking making it look real nice and cosy and quality-like. Thank you for sharing your ideas and experiences with this subject.

@Conny-Et-Charles0. You have a lovely, very cute place with a good kitchen. I have no experience in offering what you are proposing (and would never choose it as an offsite host), however IF you are happy to take individual orders and deliver them then you can request any additional fees via Airbnb Resolution Centre. I assume you can specify that payment is required prior to arrival so you can cover the food costs in case they cancel last minute-check with ABB or maybe some other hosts can comment here. Make the fee and breakfast T&C clear in your listings incl House Rules.
Have some staple items in the cupboard that are longer lasting and fairly generic. We have breakfast cereals in individual packs (hardly used) as well as long life milk, a generous supply of coffee pods, teas and individual condiments. We do have early morning breakfast options nearby (both plain and fancy) but it can be seasonal so yes its nice if your guests wake up with some basics.
Be careful in offering something that you cant find an easy backup for, in the cases where you may be sick, go on holidays, not to mention supply issues. Also its a slippery slope with people and food preferences, allergies etc. You dont want to be rated down just because they didnt like/couldnt eat the breakfast you provided.
Hope this helps. 🙂

I think this is a nice gesture, but so much work for only 6 euros.
We frequently stay at our listing, so there is a lot of food in the house which we encourage guests to eat if it appeals to them.
When we first listed I worried it would become a problem but it has been fine. I worried they would eat far more than they actually do.
We offer pancake mix, oatmeal in both instant and steel cut and breakfast cereals as well as coffee, tea etc. I let guests know they’re welcome to the food, but that we don’t have anything fresh on hand - no milk, butter, etc.
We also provide simple dinner foods like pasta and spaghetti sauce. We have it there for us, but are willing to share.
People are so surprised by the generosity! And they really eat very little overall. I hate to think of a guest arriving late at night, hungry with nothing to eat in the house.
Perhaps this approach could be less work, but still create the cosy homey atmosphere you are looking for?
Cheers!
Laura
Hi there, I offer a breakfast hamper to my guests. It is an additional fee of £40 and will do 4 good size breakfasts. It includes sausages, bacon, bread, yogurt, granola, tomatoes, eggs etc
(You get the idea)
I’ll be honest, I certainly wouldn’t do it for less than £40. It’s a pain! You need to add in your time to shop on the arrival day, and fuel costs, delivering it to your place etc and I guarantee you will get the request on your busiest day so it’s something else to fit in.
By all means do it, but for 6 euros its just not worth it!
As for charging you could do it as a money request through Airbnb for extra services. I just ask for bank transfer payment. X
What is the licensing requirement for serving cooked meals? That’s where you need to start.
Also, what are insurance requirements in case someone gets food poisoning?
How will you deal with food allergies?
Please consider everything before taking on this task.
I don’t cook it, I just do the shopping. If you leave a welcome pack with anything edible you could have the same risk. I think you are over thinking it!
With all of the Food Delivery Services like Mr Delivery, Uber Food, Bolt, etc available in our Area and with most Fast food franchises offering free delivery services today, makes providing and or serving Meals with all of the required Council permissions and or licences required considered definitely not worth all the trouble. There could also be Goods and Service Tax complications as there will be in South Africa.
Why not just leave bread, butter, confiture, eggs, sliced ham, cheese, milk and orange juice for every guest, and raise the price 6€?
Then everybody happy and pleasantly surprised.
