I have a guest who booked but we do not have rooms available for their dates.
they arrive today and I need to cancel their booking but when i try to cancel, it says that i cannot cancel within 24hours of their arrival.
when the guest tries to cancel, it says that they wont receive their full refund.
please help
@Coccobello0 you willed to call airbnb and get them to cancel. That way the guest will get a full refund.

you will incur host penalties for doing so
How could a guest book if you had no availability? To cancel on their arrival day is very disruptive for the guest.
phone airbnb, explain what happened, ask them to cancel or get the guests to cancel and refund them the balance.
