items left at Airbnb - host wont give it back

My host wont respond to me about collecting my bag I left at the airbnb. I am really upset by this as its my beach bag and has all my beach stuff in it. I have told the host many times i would go collect it so it would be less of a burden. Any ideas on how to get my bag back?

@Grace742 did you leave items behind after check-out time without an agreement with the host ? Then it is likely that your bag has flown away with the garbage truck.

Yes i called the host straight away who assured me that i would be able to colelct the bag in one or two days. Now they are ignoring me and responding to messages from my friends account

Did you ever get your bags back

@Grace742  Yes I have an idea. Display a little more grace and patience and wait for the (probably busy) host to respond, in due time. When the host responds, make arrangements to go collect your stuff. If they don’t respond, maybe make note to self to show less inattention to the stuff that’s important to you, in the future? idk.

Hi maybe if the host was organised and didnt stuff up on us being able to access the apartment in the first place (we were locked out for two hours) and then was unable to get down to our car without making two trips and making sure we could get our car out of the car park, i would have been thinking a bit more clearly. We were in a very stressful situation and I have never left stuff at an Airbnb or hotel before. So you can please leave your judgement out of this chat thank you. The host is actually responding happily to messages on my friends account so they are clearly ignoring me and Airbnb and are refusing to let me pick up my bag.

also no one wants to leave a bag or lose property

@Grace742  Unfortunately this is not an area where Airbnb can intervene on your behalf, so any chance you have of recovering your bag depends completely upon your communication with the host. I guess you could also check if your travel insurance policy has a benefit for lost baggage.

@Grace742 in your shoes I would send a message like the following:

"Dear host, I am so sorry to bother you with this again, and this will be the last time. If there is any chance my bag could be recovered and returned to me at your convenience, I would be more than happy to reimburse you <however much it's worth to you> for your time and trouble. If not, I completely understand. Thank you so much, and I'm very sorry about the inconvenience."

Unfortunately the host is not responding to any of my messages which i have apologized for and tried to be sincere. the host is responding to other messages on my friends account

@Grace742 in that case I would ask your friend to send a similar message on your behalf.

In the end you don't really care whose message they respond to, you just want your bag back, right? Best to be strategic and try not to let your upset get in the way.
