I've gotten prompts from two hosts stating that i need to check in with an external website "reservation.com". Is this legit? did I book scam locations? One of them is asking to book a security deposit or damage wavier to check in.

Was this security deposit clearly marked on the listing? Airbnb have just added a new transparency regulation and hosts are normally not allowed to ask for payment outside of the platform. Here is the Airbnb link on the subject and if you feel that your hosts are going against these rules, contact customer support to see what your options are:

They cannot ask you for a security deposit or damage waiver if this was not something that was stated on their listing.
check the listing including the house rules.
if it's not mentioned they can't ask for it .
is it being managed by a management company rather than the owner ?

@Emily2545 If the host uses a property management system they are allowed to collect a security deposit. This will normally be shown to you right below where you check out. It should also be listed in their house rules.
