We hope you all are having a wonderful week. My name is Christy Schrader, and I’m the Director of Community Engagement at Airbnb. I’m also a proud Co-Host in beautiful San Francisco. I’d like to welcome you to our official Host Q&A for the 2024 Summer Release

 

On May 1, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky announced upgrades that will help you simplify communication with your guests, get a better look at your earnings, reorder your photo tour and provide more information on who you’re hosting. Brian also announced better ways to travel together and the extraordinary new experience of Icons. 

 

We invite you to share your questions about these new features in this thread until Friday, May 10th. Our team will compile the top questions, and I will come back to you with answers by the end of the month.

We don't need more AI !

AI systems are prone to misinterpretations and causing unnecessary issues.

My three listings were suspended yesterday due to AI misinterpreting my pet-friendly listing.

My listings clearly states: "Dogs only. Max 2 adult, house-trained dogs are allowed. Dog fee is 10€/dog/stay."

AI suspended my listings, citing that hosts cannot discriminate against service animals and emotional support animals based on breed, age, or limit the number of animals.
Whaat? My listing does not mention service animals or this rule apply to them in any way !

I contacted customer support, and my case was assigned a ticket and sent for further review. This is wasting my time. If this is not resolved today, and if I will have to remove this sentence from my listing ,  my listings will no longer be pet-friendly.

 



Or another case...

My friend had a listing for years. Then she was asked to provide VAT number. She did. Airbnb didn't accept it, due to some glitch. We both tried some 30 times, called CS, wrote to CS... no avail. Her payouts were stopped. She gave up, told her future guests to cancel and now she works with Booking.com only.

 

 

 


Guests and hosts do not need constant surprises and news on Airbnb.
Airbnb for us is just a tool. We need it to be reliable, constant and user friendly.
Our focus lies in serving guests and managing our properties. Guest's focus is on finding the best suited place to stay as easy as possible. A user-friendly, stable interface is essential for achieving this.

Dear @Christy-Schrader, what another great update, we have been waiting for so long for a document in pdf instead of csv, and I would really want to thank the team for that! Many hosts, not so comfortable with computing have already come back saying how much they love it. I personally love the funky avatars, and the icons section, it feels like airbnb gives the planet the opportunity to live a dream for a day, without having to be on an hyper selective app but rather in a place where we are all equal and welcomed. I also like the fact that the changes make our life on the platform different but not drastically and in a complicated manner, it is improvement without the trauma of missing out on something, I love it. As I read in some other comments, I’d love to have our airbnb chime back as many of us seem to not hear notifications as the new chime isn’t clear and different enough. We miss this magic moment of an airbnb notification, the only one we allow when going to bed and putting our device on privacy. 😉

i am always looking forward for the update and this one brought surprises that made me love airbnb from the beginning: it is always coming up with unexpected concepts, wether we like it or not, airbnb is the one and only platform that constantly makes travelling a new adventure. Love belonging to that movement. 😍

Actually I manage three experiences and I lost the half of the reviews in my experiences, it seems it has disappeared. Anyone has the same problem?

Yes all listings are impacted by the loss of reviews according to information just out on the community center but not only that, but booked reservations are showing open to book if I go onto my listing as a guest😱

 

How bad can this get?  So will we get penalised when we receive double bookings through no fault of our own and how is the algorithme going to interpret these cancellations?

 

And we are supposed to believe that Airbnb hire only the best of the best programmers??  Really??

@Sasha217 Go onto your listing as a guest and check the amount of reviews showing.  Mine are well down and I'm not the only one experiencing this.  

 

Again in guest mode, dates are open on the calendar even though they are showing reserved in host mode.

I am very curious about the new 1%, 5%, 10% “trophy”. I have just one property and it is in the “top 1%”.


can you please tell me what this means? Is my Airbnb in the top 1% of properties in my state, my country, or in the top 1% of all Airbnb’s worldwide? I would love to know the context of this new recognition.

I noticed some of my review counts are different than before. The reviews on properties only seem to be displaying the reviews I received the "guest favorite" trophy. I have 78 reviews total (all 5 stars), around 60 for one property, and about 20 for another. However, my listing now shows I have 19. When I began my airbnb journey, I set a goal to get to 50 5-star reviews in a row. I surpassed that and increased my goal to 100 five star reviews in a row!! Please Airbnb, help me out and display ALL of my hard work!

Dear @Christy-Schrader Thank you for this opportunity to ask about the new features. I love the updates to messages in particular. Firstly that there is one messaging tab for the different inboxes - so much easier to find messages, thank you! I also love that we now have emojis to react ❤️ 

 

I'd like to ask if there will possibly be further enhancements to messages in future updates? Being able to edit a message shortly after sending in the app (we're sometimes replying quickly in between hosting and sometimes only see typing errors or other mistakes a moment too late).  The ability to attach images in scheduled messages would be fantastic - for example I have a scheduled message with directions and I'd love to be able to include a photo of the entrance that guests need to look for).

Purtroppo la nuova versione non mi piace, a me pare un po'confusa. Ho pensato a possibili miglioramenti, se possono essere utili.

 

1) durante la comunicazione

- reinserire il nome di chi chatta

Prima erano chiaro chi scriveva (host, guest e co-host), adesso non più. Nei messaggi del co-host non è indicato chi scrive. Ignorato. Sono co-host,  devo sempre presentarmi e firmare ogni messaggio? E se nella chat partecipano 4-5 persone? In WhatsApp i nomi sono indicati.

 

2) grafica

- migliorare i colori della chat

Mescolare i messaggi host e viaggi crea confusione, specie nell’archivio. Si possono impostare i filtri, ma non mantengono l’impostazione. Ad ogni ingresso sull’account bisogna rimetterli!

It used to be clear who was writing (host, guest and co-host), not anymore. Co-host messages do not indicate who is writing. Ignored. I am co-host, do I always have to introduce myself and sign every message? What if 4-5 people participate in the chat? In WhatsApp, the names are indicated.

- improve chat colours
The co-host message is written in white on a black background. Could you choose a lighter, less visually impactful colour?

3) message organisation
- make it easier to search and sort
Mixing host and travel messages creates confusion, especially in the archive. Filters can be set, but they do not keep the setting. Every time you enter the account you have to put them back!
