Find and rent a home you can host part-time

Stephanie_0-1669745865864.jpeg

Airbnb is partnering with building owners in over 25 U.S. cities to create more opportunities for renters to become part-time Hosts with us! The next time you’re searching for a place to live, from Atlanta to Seattle, you can check out what’s available from our partners, discover how much you could earn on Airbnb, and contact the building manager for more info.

While creating opportunities for new Hosts, Airbnb-friendly apartments also can help the marketplace in popular travel destinations. When fewer places are available to guests, bookings overall tend to drop. Airbnb-friendly apartments can add more options, particularly during peak travel times like holidays and major public events.

I'm sorry but with the optics on AirBnB's affect on housing markets these days this is a horrible idea.  The optics alone are a death sentence and it's a big ** to existing hosts.

There is nothing good that comes from this update....

I'm confused. Didn't Brian Chesky say in the Summer Update that Airbnb was trying to drive traffic AWAY from oversaturated areas? Wasn't that the excuse for wiping so many of us off the map in the search results?

Now, in some of these markets, Airbnb is encouraging more new hosts, and those that don't even own the property, in its relentless drive to recruit new hosts and trample over its existing ones?

@Huma0  What a truly bizarre program, especially as it sounds like they are encouraging 'renters' to rent out the whole space and not just a room.

@Mark116

From what I have heard, there is something very suspect about this whole scheme.

Some of the 'building owners' that Airbnb is partnering on this are already Airbnb investors and have literally thousands and thousands of listings. However, when they get a 'tenant' to host it, it means they can display the listing as being hosted by an 'individual host', regardless of the fact that it is actually owned by a company that has a massive stake in the STR market.

And, some of the pilots for this scheme have faired very badly indeed, with terrible ratings and reviews from guests, but also residents at these buildings being very upset about the parties etc.

It reeks of a scam to me...

Sorry, should have said hundreds of thousands of listings, not just thousands...

Hey @Huma0

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and concerns on this program!

We are partnering with a variety of multi-family apartment partners– from large national companies to more regional and local operators that offer apartments at different price points and building sizes.

Residents have the option to host on Airbnb, but are not required to,  and in addition to tools inherent to the platform - such as Air Cover for Hosts and a codified party ban-- buildings participating in the Airbnb-friendly apartments program have access to tools that provide visibility into hosting activity to help preserve community integrity. 🙂

Thanks,

Emilie

Hi @Mark116

Just to clarify, the partnership is designed to benefit full-time renters who want to share their space occasionally on Airbnb when they are away. Each building has limits on how many nights a year renters can host on Airbnb,  regardless of whether the renter hosts a private room or the entire unit, and residents must also adhere to local laws.

Thanks,

Emilie
