Home Insurance for hosting in Alberta Canada

Hi there

I am a host for Airbnb in a rural area of Alberta west and north of Edmonton.

I am aware that Airbnb covers us with liability insurance but are we required

to let our insurance company know that we are hosts.?

Anyone who knows about this please let me know.

We already pay very high rates for home insurance and if we are required to

take on commercial insurance our rates will go through the roof and it wont

be worth hosting as it will cost more than we make. We only host half of the

year. Spring through to Fall

Yes you absolutely need to let your personal home insurance know that you are doing STR as this involved many additional risk.

and please do not count on the AirBNB AirCover insurance for anything. Reading this many post on this CC will show you that it is sometimes hard to get refunded by AIRCOVER.

@Meda42 if your house burns down totally unconnected with Airbnb guests then your insurance is likely to be void if you haven't informed them that you are renting short term. Clearly Airbnb Aircover would not cover you either in this situation.

Yes thanks we did inform our home insurance provider and

we got all the answers we were looking for

Thanks
