Home Sharing Permit for LA City

Hello. I would like to know if anyone has any resources to get help from the City of Los Angeles. I am trying to renew my permit. Nothing has changed from the previous year that I had a permit and now I am told that it is being denied. They did ask for several documents and requested I upload them to a link on their homesharing website. There is no link and it just states that I am denied. No links to upload. I have tried to contact them at the phone number and sent emails. Zero response. I am now not able to rent on Airbnb so my unit is just sitting. Any ideas to correct this would be helpful.

I am a bit perplexed as to how this gets solved. I do think the layer of stress this is adding to the process of hosting guests is completely bogging down the experience for everyone involved. This energy could be directed towards the experience. It is taking 6 weeks of added stress and breaking a lot of hosts. When and how this gets addressed seems to be a mystery and out of reach of any host to repair.

@Rajan2  "Nothing has changed from the previous year that I had a permit.."

Yes, a lot has changed. There is a pandemic now and many restrictions, throughout the world, on renting shared spaces. Could this have something to do with the denial?

Hi Sarah - understand that as a consideration in potential denial. However, they are approving applications for airbnb hosts. It is not now, nor has it been a restriction ever.

Thanks for listening everyone. Didn't mean for this to come across as a complaint but more of a loss. We have enjoyed hosting on Airbnb and as a Superhost, it's a bummer that there is no place for Superhosts to go to get help and continue on the platform. My listing has been deactivated on Airbnb because I do not have a home sharing permit number. Just a bummer. Loss of income and loss for guests to travel. If you are wondering about Covid, we have a high standard of cleanliness and maintained guests who reported so on our reviews. Bummed to see this happening as someone who as been with Airbnb since the beginning.

UPDATE: its been 16 days and I have not heard from anyone from the city, leaving messages and emails daily but zero communication from the Home Sharing office with the City of Los Angeles Planning Department.

@Rajan2 We have also had some issues.... All emails from Host compliance and Planning home sharing go to my junk email everytime, so you might want to check daily. Here is the email where we finally got some decent responses...planning.home-sharing@lacity.org

sometimes you are denied for silly reasons like documents didn't load properly, or the name of unit has mini " apartment" in it??? That happen to us..

Good luck

@Rajan2 did you have any luck with this?

I’m in this same position. It’s been over 30 days for me with dozens of calls and emails. Have you had any luck? I even reached out to an Airbnb super host hotline and they said they couldn’t do anything.

This is so frustrating!  I'm having the same experience AND I have documentation showing my 60 day extended permit was successfully renewed.  Air Bnb uses offshore call centers now and I cannot get a supervisor to help.  I have some good experiences with a few specialists but the person I spoke to yesterday was HORRIFIC.  What has happened to Air Bnb?

In attempting to complete the renewal of the LA permit in the Declaration your expected to tick the box that states you will be residing in the house for six of the following twelve month… my existing permit is allows for year round rentals..

Appreciate any advise that can be given as the city is not replying to phone call or emails?

hello. I continually reached out to them and was finally able to get in touch with someone.

what happened?

Hi. How did you get in touch with someone? I can't even leave a voicemail anymore (it says voicemailbox is full). Ive been sending many many emails but with no response.

Hi Elaine,

I'm having the same issue.  Please keep me posted if you get resolution and I'll do the same.
