Security deposit help

Hi everyone. 
even though technically it’s not permitted within Air bnb rules,,,,
I’ve searched and scrolled and found some people are charging a security deposit, if it specified in the write up. (mine says a security deposit may be charged of $500 aud)
Does anyone actually do this? I really want to take a security deposit before they arrive but not sure best way to do it. 
please help.

If you are connected with an API software then you are authorised to take a deposit.  Link below:

does anyone use the API software. I looked at it but was a little overwhelmed so I didn’t use it. It would be so easy to just be able to take through air bnb. Why is it so difficult I wonder
