Have had a perfect 5* rating until now, got a 4*, will I ever get back to being a 5* star?

Have had a perfect 5* rating until now, got a 4*, will I ever get back to being a 5* star?

I´ve hosted all perfect 5 stars (about 12), until now, a super good review (go figure) gave me a 4*. Now i´m 4.9*

Will it ever be possible to go back to 5*?

Is 99.9% 5*- 0.1% 4 stars still count as 4*?

Will I be inperfect forever? haha...

How does this work?

Your score will be 4.9. We hosted almost 100 people and our score is 4.96. It still shows 4.9

No matter what you do, there is always going to be some guest that give 4*. I wouldn't worry about that, just focus on keep providing a good experience and collecting more 5* reviews.

We just received our first 4 star review and I wondered the same thing.  I read comments, so I am hoping other potential guests do too.  Ours was a guest who left our home a greasy mess and didn't leave our property for a few hours after checkout--and WE got the 4 stars.  Honestly given his response, I am glad it was 4 and not lower.  That said, every pro we watched tells us not to get worked up about 4 stars.  I've seen lots of guests say how a great their stay was at a STR and then leave 4 stars.  I don't think everyone considers 4 stars a bad thing.

Im here today😭.  115 ..5 star reviews… and got my first 4 star.  It was a good 4 star review … yet i feel the world has just ended.  ( a bit sarcastic in the last sentence, but ..). 😝😭

I did too, for a minute.  I remembered that I provide a 5* service and just because one person doesn't think so (and it was ridiculous what the 4* was for) but raves about their stay and said 2x that they'd be back...its all relevant. It's ok for us to feel this way due the the heart we put into it.  Let's move on and enjoy what we do again. God bless

Hi Everyone! Although we all want great reviews, sometimes guests think of a "4" as very good. Hosts should not feel guilty about something less than a "5". Just do your best and enjoy what you do! Let's face it, is anything really a "5"?  I myself have never experienced that, although I give a "5" when I stay somewhere.  Relax!!!

I had a guest give me 5 stars on all but location and got an overall 4 stars. How does that happen

Hi @Bridget427 🌿 Guests do rate us in the different subcategories - but they also give us an overall rating. So your guest gave you a 4 star rating in the overall rating. The overall rating is not an average of the subcategories. Best, Sandra

It makes zero sense.

I had a guest reach out to me and booked my home, she said "My sister lives next door to you!  We know like my sister's house your house is NOT directly on the beach either, but we're so happy to have found a beautiful home in the area!"

She had a great stay.

She was a great guest.

She gave me 5 Stars for everything except 4 stars for location.

I asked her why, she replied "I only give 5 Stars for location if a home is directly ON the beach..."

Sigh!

Hi @Deb216 🌿

I would reach out to the guest again - Thank her for the feedback and then explain that unfortunately a 5 star rating on Airbnb means nothing but than everything is as described on the listing - and that Airbnb will see it as if location wasn’t as described. Then add this link https://www.forbes.com/sites/sethporges/2016/06/29/the-one-issue-with-airbnb-reviews-that-causes-hos...

Thank you, @Sandra856,

but Airbnb told her there was no way for them to change her star rating. They only offered to completely DELETE her review altogether if she wished.

I am one of many hosts who feel  "burnt out!"

Hi @Deb216 🌿

I know that it isn’t possible to alter a review if it has been published. I explain the rating system on my listing for guests to read - so they are aware even before they book. I just got tired of people not knowing or understanding the rating system and I have added the link to the description as well. It has made the whole rating issue much more relaxed and less stressful. Most Europeans just have absolutely no clue how a rating system like Airbnb’ work.

@Sandra856, Thank you.

We had several cases like this. And when they say after "4 stars is also a good mark" I have my blood pressure up 😞

Especially when they write they'll come again, I want to answer "please, don't. find a place with better rating"

@Mariana313

No Mariana, your professionalism, your character, your hard work, your accuracy, your welcoming personality has been stained forever!!

Although I have had 52 straight 5 stars in the categories of Communication, Accuracy and Value, that perfect 5 is lost forever for me in those categories because one guest who is long lost in the mists of time chose to give me a 4! So I will in 3 years time still be sitting on a 4.9...that uncaring insensitive individual that I am, and left to contemplate what I might have done wrong!

There are three things that are unachievable Mariana, 'Imortality', 'Global Peace' .......and an Airbnb perfect 5 record!

Cheers......Rob
