GAME: Where in the world?

Hi everyone, 

We haven’t had a game for a while, and I thought this one would be apt: in these times, we’re not travelling so much or so far, but what better opportunity to reminisce on our past adventures and have a bit of fun travelling virtually?

The name of the game here is to guess ‘where in the world’ the photo shows. It’s a cropped photo of a famous location… can you guess?

Whoever guesses correctly can then challenge us with a picture of their own to guess. 

I’ll kick things off - I hope you enjoy 🙂

@Ann72  One World Trade Center.    I haven't been to New York in years.  Not since before 2000, I don't think.

@Michelle53  I'm sorry, but no.  One World Trade Center is the same building as Freedom Tower, which @Robin4 already guessed.  It is in the second and third pictures, to the right, but that's not the structure pictured in the first photo or on the left in all the other photos.

I'll put a couple of more photographs in soon (I've been trying but they keep ending up sideways).  It looks different from every angle.  It was finally completed about five years ago and we New Yorkers have fallen completely in love with it.  It's hard to photograph but we keep trying!

@Ann72  That looks amazing.  I was just looking at more photos online - probably drone or helicopter photos.  It's a tough one to photograph !

@Michelle53  I'm sorry but I can't make head or tail of it except there appears to be a body of water and a shoreline that's not flat, something in the water - or are those whitecaps? - and a white railing on the shore.  Land's End?  Really no idea!

@Ann72   So the important clue is the lines you can see, not the ocean.  The lines are the "what". The ocean is the "where".

On that Colors of Canada cruise Ann, the last port before Quebec was Saguenay Fiord. We pulled in around 6.30am and it was bitterly cold and the wind was blowing at around 40 knots (85Kph).

Because of the propulsion system (Azipod motors) our ship was able to berth, but lots of other cruise boats came and left because the wind speed was just too great for them to attempt a controlled pier docking, so they just turned around and sailed on. 

One boat however absolutely won my heart, a boat which belonged to a French cruise line called De Ponant! The boat was called Le Boreal......

what the captain did....he knew he could not berth so he dropped his anchors and spun the ship port side to the wind and dropped down the starboard lifeboat in the still water created in the shadow of the ship....he then spun the boat to starboard and dropped the port lifeboat. Then he pointed the ship to the wind and the passengers were all able to board the lifeboats in the calm water at the stern of the ship and have their days outing as planned.....How bloody smart was that I thought, these passengers had paid to see certain sights and that captain made sure they did, while other cruise boats just hoisted the white flag and said....too hard!

When I got home I joined the De Ponant cruise lines site and I booked myself a cruise that went from Ushuaia on the tip of South America to Antarctica!

I got to spend a day and night on the Antarctic continent!

It's not often that something just takes your breath away.....but this did....and it wasn't just because it was cold!

In a way Ann that cruise from NY changed my life.
