Lost property

Hi,

I checked out of an airbnb place yesterday and I forgot my coat there and I contacted the host about it and they're denying it was there.  The thing is I'm 100% sure I left it there.  Has anyone else had any experinece with this and has anyone gotten their stuff back? This coat has a lot of sentimental value to me which is why I'm so desparate to get it back.

Open up a claim in the Resolution Center and document the situation.  This may spark a conversation to return the coat and will be monitored by Airbnb if it needs to escalate.  Offer to pay to have the coat shipped back to  you.

Hi guys, thanks for your reply. I actully live close to the place where I stayed, I can go and pick up my coat in person and I've contacted Airbnb about the situation.  The host is continuing to deny that my coat was there, and I actually suspect it's not a local person who lives here because they messaged me via txt in regards to this issue at one point from a number that wasn't local.  Also some of the contact I've had has been with someone else and I picked up the keys from a separate third person.  All the while they're reassured me that they've personally checked the place for my coat and it's not there.

I have had people leave stuff and I have found it and in some cases they come back.

I have had people ask me if they left stuff on one occasion, not there.

Now if they had wanted to come back and look I would have let them. If I had moved it they would not have found it so I am not sure what you can do, no idea what AirBnB could be expected to do.

You also need to realize that probably the host would not even be the first person to enter the place after you left. Most hosts have a cleaning person, or laundry person, etc. It can even be an honest mistake. I'm a host for 2 years, 3 listings, so I know what I'm talking about. If you left the coat by the bed, for example, it may go to a landry mixed with towels and linen. Some people do take linen, duvet cover, towels, to a private laundry. Or a not-so-honest situation can happen, but still not be the host's fault, since he/she probably is not the one that checks the place first.. And how can we place the blame on someone without any proof?

I recently stayed in Hove. I took a few days away to complete a project I was working on.  I took my papers, Mac book pro and of course my mac charger.   I accidentally left the chafer at his house.  I messaged and explained what had happened.  2 day later I received a Apple phone PLUG. I own an android, the plug is not' mine.

I messaged again. No reply. I'e contacted support.

I will go to the house if need be,  even tho I live in London!  He has my property and I want it back.

@Ceri9 it can be confusing to people what piece of equipment is what. When you asked for the charger you left behind, the host may have grabbed the first piece of unfamiliar equipment they saw.

Perhaps send them a photo of the charger so the host can know exactly what it looks like?

(From the Apple web site, or Amazon.) That should help them identify the specific item you need returned.

I have accumulated quite a selection of phone chargers, never had anybody who came back for one.

Often I find them sometime later, not something I particularly look for so difficult to tell who left it.

Anyway if someone comes without one I can usually help.

I'm stuck in a similar situation,

I left a jewelry bag behind at an Airbnb I stayed at and the host actually contacted me to ask if I left it behind and that they were happy to send it if I was willing to pay for postage. I accepted and followed up, even gave them my address. All wheels seemed to be in motion but I have messaged 5 times without a reply since the last time they responded. I texted in hopes they're not cheking Airbnb constantly. I really need that bag back, how should I proceed?

The Airbnb was in Nashville and I am in Tampa.

I have a bunch of chargers and cables left behind. Most people don't claim them. One lady wanted her charger back and said, she'd swing by to pick it up one evening, but she never showed and I never heard from her again.

One guy said he couldn't find his wallet, and I searched his room/bathroom and the common spaces he could have accessed. I searched thoroughly and couldn't find it. He was panicking and I could empathize. Luckily he found hiding under the seat of his car.

One young girl left sunscreen behind, I could tell it was new and purchased from a nearby shop I am familiar with (branding and stickers). I usually throw personal care items immediately. But I contacted her anyway as it was brand spanking new, bulky (as it was full) and something she purchased during the duration of her stay with us. Thought she would appreciate a heads up, and she did, but unfortunately she asked me to trash it as she was too far to return.

I never bothered to search a forum about lost & found before. But today I have a brief moment where all my guests have checked out, and I see a pair of shoes, unclaimed. I thought it could be anyone's but if memory serves me right, I know which guest's it could be. I just wonder what I would tell her, or if I should just trash it, right away. I've decided to leave a message.

But what do you'll think is a nice Lost & Found policy to add to the listings? So that there's some pre-established order, in case there's instances like these?

I left a jacket at an airbnb in Vancouver and I am now in Edmonton where I live, I realized it was missing the day after we left and have messaged the host multiple times since asking if I could get a friend or family member in the area to go pick it up or to see if I could get him to ship it to me, but never got any responses until today (5 months later) saying that my $300 jacket had been donated to a value village. Is there any type of obligation for the host to compensate me for donating my personal property?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for recycling but I was not done with that jacket and it was quite expensive lol.

@Rahul44 @Asha4 there is a responsibility on guests to take their own stuff home and to do a final check before leaving.

A nice Lost&found policy would be if you find something of any value, message the person and ask if they want it sent on. A reasonable expectation would be the guest pays postage.

Lucky me my guests have left only

1. Tiny bottle of cheap conditioner (bin)

2. One pair of ragged knickers (bin)

3. One 'phone charger (messaged him but he didn't reply).

A guest, who stayed one night, checked out at 11:02. I went down to clean the space at 11:03. He messages at 11:10 saying he had left his wallet in the space. He did not. He insists that there is no other place it could be.  Is anyone aware of a scam in which Airbnb guests sue the hosts by alleging theft of property?

I have hosted for 4 years or so and we frequently have guests asking us to send stuffs they left behind back to them. Be very honest over half of those cases are that guests actually didn't leave those stuffs behind. It's a common thing that when guests cannot find some stuff they first suspect they left in the property they stayed in, but over half of the time this was not the case.
