Do you allow smoking or vaping at your property?

The question of smoking or vaping in a rental is a sensitive topic for many hosts.

On one hand, allowing it might make your place more appealing to certain guests. It shows flexibility and consideration for their preferences, which can lead to a better experience.

On the other hand, smoke can leave lingering odors, damage furniture, and mean extra cleaning—adding costs and potentially affecting future bookings. Plus, it’s important to think about guests who might have allergies or respiratory issues.

What’s your take—do you allow smoking or vaping in your rental?

I do not allow smoking and vaping inside my house because I live there part of the year and can't stand the lingering smell in the carpets and curtains.  There is a patio where people can go to smoke outside.

We don’t permit smoking, but haven’t a hard and fast rule on vaping. The issue around tobacco smells lingering and potential accidental damage, are our reasons for the no smoking rule.

We are fortunate that we have a grassed area with garden furniture directly outside the property allows smokers get their nicotine hit 😊

Hi,

 No I do not allow smoking or vaping in my house.  The smoke smell is unpleasant to guest.  If they are going to smoke, I imagine they do it outside, if at all.

I, the Host. actually smoke. Haha

I am totally respectful that a lot of people don't like or have issues with smoking.

I make sure smoking is disclosed in my ads.

Standard for me also, is I like to confirm because Guests don't always read. lol

"In case allergies, you did notice I smoke cigarettes and have pets?'

In most cases works, I will get 1 or 2 a year that said no problem and then on arrival had a problem.

The funny part is I can't remember my last smoking Guest.  I can have all 3 rooms rented in my shared space and nobody smokes.

My wheelchair is a little limiting to go in and outside.  

I smokie in my living room.

I do have multiple big air purifiers in this room.

I rent up to four bedrooms.

Each bedroom has an individual air purifier.

Each bedroom has an individual mister with the guest has 6 scents to choose from if they want a scent.

The guests are allowed to smoke but only living room or outside.

The strange thing is in Arizona I have never gotten a smoker.

Today, I have 4 non smoking guests.

Dans Bel Appart, nous n'autorisons pas le tabagisme ni le vapotage. 

Je pense que les résidents respectent les consignes ; par contre je me demande si je ne vais pas interdire la cuisson de poisson ou imposer que ce soit fenêtre ouverte et hotte en fonctionnement!!

Nous avons hébergé un chef d'entreprise avec 2 ouvriers et j'ai dû lessiver 2 fois l'appartement pour retirer les odeurs de cuisson du poisson!!

Si vous avez des trucs et astuces pour éliminer les odeurs de cuisine persistantes, je prends...

Hello,

At Bel Appart, we don't allow smoking or vaping.

I think the residents respect the rules; however, I'm wondering if I'm not going to forbid cooking fish or require that it be done with the window open and the hood on!

We had a company director staying with 2 workers and I had to wash the apartment twice to get rid of the fish cooking smells!

If you have any tips and tricks for eliminating persistent kitchen odors, I'll take...
