Fire Safety Law Wales

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help as I'm new to hosting. I'm hosting in Wales and am slightly confused on the Smoke Alarm requirements in a property. Are you legally required to have mains smoke alarms fitted or is it a suggestion? I have a radio linked smoke alarm systems that are checked weekly and every change over with a  smoke alarm in every room apart from the bathroom. Does this need to be updated to a mains system by law?

Thank you in advance.

Hello at @Cian1728, I'd like to tag some lovely hosts based in Wales who could potentially advise you better @Joanna844@Ben6351@Powell4

As this is a global forum, it might be tricky finding out area-specific information regarding fire safety laws. I'd recommend joining the Local Host Clubs to connect with fellow hosts local to your area. You can get advice, exchange tips and share knowledge 🤗

Hope this helps!

@Cian1728 If the rules are in anyway similar to England the simple answer is you need to do whatever your risk assessment requires.

I am somewhat confused by your question though. I would be very surprised if your radio-linked smoke alarms are not mains powered. I can see they may not be linked to each other by wires and see no reason why radio linking alone is a problem.

Thank you for the reply.
I believe they are slightly different and in Wales you are required to have mains fitted.
You can get battery powered radio link smoke alarms.
I am having mains smoke alarms fitted now anyway.
