Help! I’m new to this situation! A current guest contacted me because bad weather came through and a tree fell on their boat motor and damaged it. What do I do??
Good morning
It depends on the context. Is the boat part of the rental package you have provided?
No, they brought it with them.
Why would you do anything ? The guest would need to make a claim on their boat insurance @Pattie31
They have insurance through their reservation so I told them to reach out to Airbnb to see if that was something they covered. They told me that Airbnb didn’t cover it and that Airbnb told them to send pictures to me and I would take care of it……I don’t think that is true but want to be sure.
No I doubt travel insurance would cover their boat so not sure why you sent them to Airbnb their customer services are appalling and have now confused things further .
i bet they didn't tell the guest you would take care of it though @Pattie31
Was the boat on your property when the accident happened ? Was it your tree that fell on the boat ? Thats the only case where I can see their insurance company might reach out to you to confirm your liability insurance details .
if not then nothing to do with you.
Hi Pattie,
I'm sorry to hear about this situation—definitely a stressful experience for both you and your guest. Since the tree fell due to bad weather, this would typically be considered an "act of God," meaning you likely wouldn't be held liable unless the tree was known to be a hazard before the storm.
I’d recommend checking with your homeowners or rental insurance provider to confirm if they have any guidance on such incidents. Your guest may also want to contact their own insurance to see if their policy covers damage to their boat.
If needed, you can offer to provide photos or any documentation that may assist them with their claim. Hope this helps, and let me know if you need any further support!
As I mentioned in my earlier post, it would only be relevant to the hosts STR insurance if it was their tree that fell on the boat on their property @Walid135
unfortunately @Pattie31 hasn't returned to update us . It could equally be the boat was in the water so no liability for the host so no information for the host to provide .
