Dallas Taxes and banned Air BnBs

First time user. My question is are we supposed to collect the 9% hotel tax from every guest  if so how are you tell your guest.

Second I rent one bedroom so I live at the resident where the guest are staying. I am in a single family area.  Is my Air BnB part of the ban. There was no mention about my set up ..

I make $2000 a month this will really hurt.

Hi @Michael7551

You should be able to find the STR regulations for your area on the Texas government website

Yes, is banned in single family residential areas. I am affected too. I dont have an idea if airbnb will keep my listing up after December 14 or will drop it. It would be nice if they let us know if our listings will be up during the lawsuit. Hurting? yep, I dropped a large amount of savings in a brand new house and furnishings to host.

I can't speak to the ban, but as far as your 9% accommodations tax, the answer varies by area. For instance, I have rentals in South Carolina. ABB adds the state, county and accommodations tax at check out, however, they don't collect the island tax (Hilton Head Island has its own 3% tax) so I add that as one of the additional charges at set up of the property and remit on a quarterly basis to the island.

In other cases, they collect all taxes and in rare cases, very few taxes. It really based on the state and local governments they work with, and the states willingness to work with them. Hope that helps. You can see what they collect on your behalf under the Taxes Collected section for your listing.
