Keep Getting Wrong Address

Keep Getting Wrong Address

I am setting up a property on AirBnB and every time I write the address it corrects it to another address, of a different street in a different part of the city. Any ideas why?

@Charles1455  The program uses Google mapping (I believe).  Have you tried to Google map your address to see what that program thinks is the correct address?

@Lorna170 Thanks for the reply- yes I have, and Google Maps knows where we are. It's not a similar address, not a similar part of town, not even a similar business name.

Our listing is a countryside listing that has no official postal address. When we first set up the listing on Airbnb, we used the supplied maps function to point it out. All good, yes?

Within the first few bookings, we started to get calls from arriving guests saying they couldn't find the place.

Well, it seems that Airbnb takes the GPS coordinates of google maps and tries to formulate a postal or otherwise street address from it. In our case, there is no street address, so Airbnb was sending them about 3km down the road to (apparently) the first thing it considered to be a valid street address.

We solved that problem by putting a warning on the directions page, that Airbnb tries to resolve it to a postal address, and their link is not correct. Then I direct guests to the proper Google Maps link instead.

I also send that link to guests the night before their arrival, or otherwise an hour before their flight arrives (if they've given me that info) just in case they didn't check the directions in the listing.

It's worked ever since. Not one guest has gotten lost using the proper Google Maps link.

I wonder why Airbnb doesn't just leave it alone (?) Another of the many irritating "helpful interventions" perhaps?  So thoughtful, but no, thanks. 🙄
