Seeking information on the necessary local approvals for hosting in San Jose, CA.

Hello! I'm interested in exploring the possibility of hosting my secondary home on Airbnb in San Jose, Santa Clara County.

I'm seeking guidance on the business license requirements for operating a short-term rental. Could you provide information on the type of business license I would need? Additionally, I'd like to know how early I should start the process of obtaining the license and how long it typically takes from applying for the license to being able to host my home on Airbnb.

Are there any important considerations or tax-related aspects I should be aware of in this process? Thank you

Good questions. The one that can be best answered by your planning and zoning department at City Hall is about business licenses and how long it takes for your unique situation. TOT collection and remittance setup is from that office also. Other financials are available from your tax preparation person. our online  from the IRS. Recommend you also research what constitutes a Tenant in California law.

Hi @Ankie130 ! Adding to @Kitty-and-Creek0 's amazing piece of advice, I also wanted to share an Airbnb article that may be of some help to give you a good start in getting accustomed to understanding your local laws : https://www.airbnb.co.uk/help/article/870 .

Hope it helps!
