New to the forum? Introduce yourself here!

**We now have a new introduction discussion, to view click here. We look forward to hearing from you. This topic is closed to new replies. Thank you **

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the Airbnb Community Center. This thread is for introducing yourself to your fellow Airbnb forum members, as well as welcoming and saying hi to newcomers in return, in order to make everyone feel like they belong.

I'm Marjo, and I lead the Community Center staff team who will manage this online forum on a daily basis. You will see me posting here sometimes, along with our other English community staff member @Lizzie, who has just joined as well and will be introducing herself in this thread too - Lizzie will be managing the English community full-time once we launch the forum.

Here's a few additional facts about me:

  1. My favourite city is San Francisco. I spent hours and hours of time there on Google street view for years, until I actually got to visit the city in person recently. Such a friendly and colourful place!
  2. I have 2 cats which probably makes me a bit of a (crazy) cat lady.
  3. I'm originally from Helsinki, Finland.

How about you, any fun facts you want to share? 🙂

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you so feel free to reply to this thread and say hello!

Hello Keith: I have never been on a forum before so I hope I'm doing this right!

A couple of things: love the quote about "Moveable Feast" (since I included a bit from Hemingway's book in my book about Paris—one of my all-time favorite places as well) and see you help manage other airbnbs so I thought you might be a good resource.

I am a host and user of Airbnb looking for part time work (I am a writer not a millionaire and the rent keeps going up!) so thought I'd reach out to hosts in NYC (where I live) to see if they need someone to do some managing . . . but I'm not quite sure how to go about it.

Do you have any suggestions?

Best,

Chris

The groups sound like a good idea.... I have a neighbour down the road who has an Airbnb room he lets out. I guess we're like a group of two.

In what way?

Hi Keith

Is your newsletter 'Optimal Hosting' available for all of us to receive and if so, how do I get it? Sounds just what I need 😉

Cheers

Hi, I'm Airbnb Janet. I love the Group Platform and enjoy sharing Tips, Deals, and Places to recommend in and around Ottawa, and Ottawa Valley: Canada's Capital City and Region.

I am a busy designer, parent, educator/ innovator.

I love travelling andexplor ing the world.

My past work have taken me to Asia, Africa, Europe and the Carribean.

My current work is Global.

I have three fantastic kids, a lot of fish (to eat mosquito larvae), a rescued Guinea Pig and the most fantastic man in the Galaxy.

I am crazy in love with my job and projects.

My family and I have been hosts since 1989!

Yup, probably when the Airbnb Founders were still toddlers 🙂

We likely will host for generations because we love sharing, learning and enjoying as much about this world as possible.

We recently visited and fell deeply in love with Portugal and we'll be going to Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and Ireland over the next 8 months.

It is my absolute pleasure to meet you Marjo!

If there are anything I can offer on this Community Forum regarding Hosting in the past (1980's), tips/deals/places in my City or Country, Cultural variations/ethics/mannerisms which can help the Airbnb Community, feel free to ask.

Happy airbnbing.

Janet and Family

So excited to see you all posting here! Welcome @Janice-And-Garry0, your hosting experiences in the past sound very interesting and I'm sure the members would love to read more about that. You can definitely offer a great deal to the community here with all those useful topics you mentioned! Also, thanks for the fun mental image of the Airbnb founders as toddlers. 😄

Hello to you @Guido-E0 as well, nice to meet you! @Deborah0 and @Paul0 welcome welcome, hope you enjoy the new forum and thanks for the suggestions. Feel free to post feedback in the Beta board too here.

Also Deborah, I noticed you have many interests that some of our other members might share as well - I'd like to point you to the off-topic section, in case you feel like you'd like to discuss these at any point. The off topic board in the Hosting category is called The Living Room. 🙂

Hi , Jim and Caroline here, Living on an Island named Ekerö (Helgö) just outside Stockholm Sweden. I am Irish, My Wife is Swedish - One Son Jack and Bob the dog. Enjoy hosting and meeting really great people through AirBnB. All the Best ( I will be droppng in to see the latest discussions.)

I have joined Airbnb in July 2014 but didn't start hosting until a year later! Absolutely love the concept and quite fascinated by the potential it has offered me to not only get to know people from all over the wold (15 families from 7 countries in my case) but also generating substantial amount of money on the side!

At this point I almost mastered how to check my rates and adjust it accordingly using tools that Airbnb offers, making reservations, accommodating guests from A to Z, following up before and after guest check-ins and check-outs.

I still have concern on what the longevity of Airbnb will be in cities that have penalized or intimidated hosts and hope to be able to put that worry behind. Looking forward to reading more success stories and give and take feedbacks to fellow hosts. The app is amazing but could have some improvements. Checking the website and the app on my iPhone/ipad is part of my daily routine and takes place half dozen times a day.

I am grateful for this opportunity and wish success for all involved. Amir [Personal information hidden]

Welcome and I hope your city continues to allow you this pleasure. Airbnb is working really hard to persuade governments and districts about the good that Airbnb does for people like us and our guests.

Hello Marjo, Janet & G, Keith, Guido, Lucille and Alan!

I am Deborah, from the East Bay in the San Francisco Bay Area.  I help run the New Hosts Forum, and Home Sharers of the East Bay, and have been busy lately helping hosts organize, as several cities in the East Bay have started started to consider short term rental regulations.

About me -- I love the East Bay, the mellow side of the Bay, where I've lived for 30 years since graduating from UC Berkeley.  I have a range of interests in the realm of creative arts --writing, drawing and painting-- and I study astrology and practice yoga.  I think my favorite pets are birds -- I have a flock of backyard chickens, as well as a few quail.  I find them to be very sweet pets even though they dont' like to be petted.  I can talk to them though and they appreciate that.  My guests get fresh eggs when the "girls" are in the mood to provide.

Travel?  I could say -- I explore the world, but dont' go far.   The vast majority of my travel is by car -- my vacations are almost all camping trips.  So I like those Airbnb listings for cabins and yurts in people's rural farms.  I like to travel inward when I go outward so I often travel in order to find a nice place for a private meditation retreat or art/writing retreat.  Paris? I'd love to go if I could drive there....but I am going to be excited to hear how the experience was for you all.

Happy to be here!
