[Update] Hear answers to top-voted questions about our recent announcements

Q&A.jpg

Hello everyone,

On February 27th, we held our second global host Q&A, where CEO and Head of Community Brian Chesky answered questions about the next Airbnb, inspired by you.

Our global host Q&A events are part of Brian’s 2017 pledge to elevate the voice of the host community. We’ll hold these events throughout the year, rotating the livestream start time to accommodate different time zones.

This latest global host Q&A event was dedicated specifically to your questions about our recent announcements and what’s next for hosts on Airbnb. Brian answered a selection of questions that received the most votes from the host community.

Watch the replay to hear the questions and Brian’s answers (registration required). The livestream was held in English. To turn on translated subtitles, click the “CC” (Closed Captioning) button underneath the video screen when viewing.

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the Q&A. Creating an open dialogue with you, our host community, is part of our company mission and helps us to keep doing better. We appreciate your hard work, dedication, and feedback.

Lizzie

Can we get a Super guest or Plus Guest program going?  It would be so helpful...

@Marj2 - That was my exact question for this Global Q & A! When I call the dedicated Super Host line, I seem to be on hold much longer and the C/S rep appears to be very new, very 'green' staff. So that benefit feels more like a penalty to me now. As in, not so valuable. In regard to getting 'buried' in the rankings - This is a comment I just wrote elsewhere in a discussion about the 'Plus' program:

"I would have felt better about the 'Plus' roll out if Super Hosts had been acknowledged in search rankings more than they have been (historically), and if we had been occassionally 'featured' at the top of the search page, e.g., 'Stay With A Super Host' -  In the manner that 'Plus' hosts now automatically are (burying Super Hosts even more in the search rankings). Listening to the Q & A right now, supposedly we will be featured a bit more, but I don't see it yet. And in the new Airbnb home page, you must scroll past at least 6 other types of housing ('Houses around the World', etc) before you get to the Super Host 'type'. So Super Hosts are next to last on the new Home page. I felt disappointed by this.

I live in a rural / beach area and this 'Plus' roll out will not affect me much one way or another (it will not get here for a long time, if ever). However, as a Community member, I feel somewhat badly for traditional hosts who may feel a bit displaced by these changes. Some will benefit, no doubt, but many will not. For example, the new 'linens required' is already presenting problems for hosts around the world and may cause them to leave the platform, per other recent posts and comments I have read here."

We've worked hard to have earn the business ready badge on our listings and heavily rely on business travel to fill in the week days. The fact that we have a strict cancelaltion policy now prevents our listings from being included in the bsuiness collection. This is extremely frustrating as our listings are and will continue to be business ready. Can you please just include cancellation policy categories withing the business collection and leave it up to the traveler to choose?

I agree Dani - I have had to change my cancellation policy to moderate in order to re-qualify for business listings - what I was most annoyed about was the inability to apply moderate to business bookings but keep the general bookings as strict. Instead it's had to apply to everyone. I simply had no option and feel, like you do, that the guest always had the choice to choose only hosts with moderate cancellaion policies - so forcing it on hosts it really unfair ..........

Thanks Lizzie, but it is still an endless cycle to the post page where the video obviously is not streaming anymore. When I click on the tiny text "Watch the replay of the Global Host Q&A with Brian Chesky NOW" it simply reloads that exact same page.

Where does the video live?? Can you give us an exact url that goes to the video?

Hello @Keli10,

Aw that is strange.

When you click on the link I have included in my last response to you it should take you to my original post here.

If you haven't registered before for this Q&A it should show a video box like this:

Register.png

Once you have registered or if you have previously, you should be able to watch it:

Screen Shot 2018-02-28 at 18.52.29.png

It can take a few seconds for the page and video to load.

Does this look familar at all? Also, what browser are you using?

Do let me know how you get on. Fingers and toes crossed it works for you.

Thanks,
Lizzie

Sorry, not just yet @Lizzie! I think maybe the video portion is being blocked by my work's firewall, so I need to try it from home, which I haven't done yet. Hopefully tonight. Will let you know. Thanks!!

@LizzieI was finally able to access the video! A firewall was preventing me from seeing it, and also it does not work on ipads. I finally watched it on my laptop last night. Thanks!
