Covid19 What do you consider to be Essential Travel?

I’m curious to know what people consider essential travel to be during this Covid19 pandemic? I’m travelling to/from Ontario/BC recently because of my fathers passing and having to arrange funeral, burial, settling his estate etc. I recently had a host accuse me of breaking laws for travelling outside of my home province during a pandemic. Is a parents death considered an essential reason for travelling? ... Thanks.

I am very sorry for your loss @Diane1098

Was this a host you were looking to stay with?

If you look at your government's Covid restrictions it will tell you what restrictions they have for staying in short terms rentals

it doesn't matter what others here think as we are an international forum and all have our own Covid  regulations, or some areas have none .

in the Uk we can accept people travelling for a funeral. We just need to ask for written confirmation from funeral director/organiser.

In my own zone in Ontario (grey lockdown currently), I am not able to accept a stay for even bereavement, @Diane1098 . The fine is up to $500,000. When we were in orange, I had to advise some guests from red and grey zones that they needed to cancel or reschedule. The fine for hosting them in that situation was $100,000. Their fine for non-essential travel (yes, even bereavement) would have been $840. I suppose it is possible they thought I was accusing them, but I was following the rules.

I understand BC has some strict rules as well, but I haven't checked.

You will have to take a look at the website of the Health Unit for the area to which you are travelling, and that of the Health Unit for the area to which you are returning to know for sure.

Sorry for your loss, especially at this very difficult time.

I have done my due diligence and checked PH authority guidelines. I prepared with my doctor in Ontario before leaving, and followed the core bubble “rules”.

@Diane1098sorry to hear about your loss. In BC, we’ve been “advised” to not accept any bookings from out of Country or out of Province guests and have been adhering to those “suggestions” with our Cottage. We have only been taking guests from our home Province of British Columbia, but also have not been accepting returning Canadians that need to quarantine as they are now required to stay at approved hotels. We would personally not break any rules or laws, but would consider a guest like yourself and your personal circumstances.  We hope it all works out for you.
