GST Remittance in Canada

I am struggling to get information regarding the GST collected on my Airbnb listing. After hitting the $30k in income mark, we sent Airbnb our GST registration document and added a 5% GST tax collection to our listing (which has successfully come through new bookings as a pass-through amount).

However, Airbnb has not reduced the rate of occupancy taxes collected, so it's effectively adding 5% to our nightly cost.

I am also unable to get a confirmation of the GST that was collected and remitted on our behalf prior to us providing our GST registration number.

Does anyone have experience with this or advice on how to get more information from Airbnb?

Thank you.

Hi @Josie196

According to this Help Center article, "If you add your GST, HST, and/or QST numbers, Airbnb will not be required to collect and remit the GST/HST and/or QST on the listing price, cleaning fee, and/or guest service fee."

I'll tag a few other experienced Hosts from Canada who might have some thoughts about what may be happening or what you can do. @Dave-and-Deb0 @Michael2548 @Gary287

Hi @Josie196

I took a look at your listing at it appears that about 14% tax is being collected.  Unfortunately the system does not give a good breakdown.  When you say, "we sent Airbnb our GST registration document", does this mean that you added it where @Breanna shared the link to? (https://www.airbnb.ca/account-settings/taxes/taxpayers)

Is your GST number in there?  This is what triggers Airbnb to NOT collect the GST and then it is up to the host to collect and remit.

Hi @Dave-and-Deb0 , yes our GST registration number is in there (loaded several months ago in the location of the link sent previously) but it has not triggered Airbnb to reduce the taxes collected. Any ideas?
