HST not being charged on my listing in Nova Scotia

Hi there, I am brand new to AirBnb and am looking for help regarding HST in Canada (NS). I provided my HST number however now I do not see any HST being charged on my listing. My understanding was that if I provided my HST number, AirBnB would still charge HST as a separate line item so guests could see the breakdown, but would payout the total for me to file and remit to CRA. I've spoken to AirBnB Support but they don't seem to understand my issue.

If they are not charging the HST should I include the 15% in my base price? Here is my listing if anyone wants to take a look and let me know if I am missing something! https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/922351530856271197?preview_for_ml=true&source_impression_id=p3_168804570...

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi @Barbara3016

When you enter your GST/HST/QST, you are essentially telling Airbnb to no longer collect and remit this tax to the government and you are indicating that you will be collecting this and remitting it to CRA.  You can choose to either build it into your nightly price or you can choose to add it as a tax in your settings.  When you do this, it will be collected by Airbnb and sent to you as part of your payout for each reservation.  This is what I do for GST.

You will need to turn on Pro-hosting tools in order to have the Tax settings to appear in your pricing section.

You can read more about taxes in Canada here: https://www.airbnb.ca/help/article/2283

It does state: "Hosts with Airbnb listings who are registered for GST, HST, and/or QST should continue to account for the GST, HST and/or QST on their accommodation. If this applies to you, you’ll need to provide your GST, HST, and/or QST ID to Airbnb so that Airbnb won’t collect and remit these taxes on top of your accommodation price.".

I hope this helps @Barbara3016
