Home owners insurance in Orlando Florida that allows short term renting

Hello,

I am a new short term renter of my home in Orlando FL. I recently decided to ask my homeowners insurance company (Citizens) if they allow coverage for a short term rental (3 months).  The answer is NO, they don't allow it.

I am currently searching for another homeowners insurance carrier in Florida, that allows short term renting of your home.  Any suggestions?

So far, because my home was built in 1953, I've had no luck finding anyone else to insure my home, and therefore would be unable to rent it.

Any guidance or references will be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you,

Jeanne

Hey there @Jeanne835, as our Community Center is a global forum, it may be a bit difficult to get recommendations for home insurance. I would recommend you ask this question to Local Hosts through the Local Host Clubs 😊

@Sophia  I understand that but I am unable to join anything local...not sure why.  Its just not working.  Just giving it a shot here in case someone from Florida reads it. Thanks

Hey @Jeanne835, sorry to hear that, could you provide some more information on what happens when you try to join?

@Jeanne835 i just moved to Orlando and currently researching how to get my 1st airbnb here rolling. i have 3 in Ohio just need one here

Hi

When we were looking, we found contacting a  local insurance agency/broker  vs. a company( citizens) ; and they were extremely helpful…they were able to direct us to which companies..ie State Farm, etc.. were covering STR’s.

Prior to that, we google all the resources in our area, and called every one of them.

You may be having challenges as FL and CA insurers are scaling back general coverage across both states.

There is a company who will cover STR in Florida called Frontline.  It does depend on the age of your home however.

yeh - my home is old!  1953 so no go 😥
