Hotel occupancy taxes in Perland, TX

I am new to hosting and this is my first qurter. City of Pearland TX is requesting I pay occupancy taxes. Airbnb collects these taxes from my guests. I have tried to contact the support and get them paid. No luck! Please advise

@Tara777   First, you need to verify that AirBnB is collecting the City taxes from your guests and is NOT forwarding that money on to you in your payout.  You should be able to see what taxes are being collected and paid by AirBnB on your behalf if you can navigate to the listing editor, preferences, taxes section.

If AirBnB is collecting and not forwarding the  Citytaxes on to you, it means that AirBnB has an agreement with the City tax agency to collect and pay those taxes.  AirBnB does NOT identify the properties that the taxes are being paid for or the owners whose accounts should be credited.  You will have to talk to the City tax office and find out how to file a "no tax due" report or a letter stating that the taxes are collected and paid by AirBnB.  AirBnB WILL NOT provide you with a letter or a tax form showing that your taxes were paid.

If the City tax is NOT listed on your tax page, it means that it is not collected and paid by AirBnB.  You should be able to add the percentage to be collected under the custom tax section.  Then it will be collected from the guest at booking and forwarded to you with the rest of your rental payment.  You will then file your required tax reports with the City and pay your taxes.

You may want to speak to an accountant.

I use a tax reporting company. They applied for my tax licenses, I fill out my monthly occupancy and income totals, they prepare my quarterly report and debit my bank account. The name of the company is MyLodgeTax by Avalara. They don't work in all markets however but I'm sure there's a company in your area that does the same thing.
