New Tax Reporting requests (for a non-US person)

Hello everyone

I was wondering if anyone is in a situation like mine where as a Canadian and newly set up host where there is a request from Airbnb to provide my tax info in the 3 options provided:

1- US Person Or Entity

2-Non US person with TIN #

3-Non US person with NO TIN #

Since i just joined i dont have a TIN # yet as it will take me 2 months to get and there is a Dec 1st deadline to choose an option and if i dont my payouts and bookings "may " be paused and will be subject to withholding tax.  I want to be in the 2nd position to deduct for taxes as appose to 30% withholding

What would anyone do in my situation, what are my options and consequences if i dont choose a option as i want to wait for my TIN?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi @Paige215 ,

We are Canadian, just purchased a US rental home, and trying to set up airbnb payout methods.  Would appreciate any tips on how to set this up properly - or what you found easiest.  We have a US bank account, but, like your post, require us to pick an option, one of them being a 30% withholding.  When we put in the US bank, they want a US address associated with the account, and then the tax information.

We also have a Canadian US money account - which we haven't tried to link yet, when I start the process with the Canadian account, it seems to avoid the US tax information.  But I haven't submitted any of the options  because I'm nervous about messing this up.

What have you done?

I hope you are willing to help this newbie  🙂  we live just north of TO.

Hi @John-And-Melanie1 😊

Congratulations on the new rental home! 🎉

The best way to ask for help from other Hosts is to start a new conversation here.

Let me know if this helps!

I have noticed that the questions have been asked before - but with no one replyiing to them - so I thought to ask someone with a similar situation but has solved their problem already, hopefully.   I have looked extensively through the tax information on Airbnb, but there aren't any clear answers to how this works.  Looking for experience.  I will ask the question again in the new question area.

Hi @John-And-Melanie1 😊

Thank you for explaining this to me!

Would you like to connect with people in your area and ask them through our Local Host Clubs?
