Phone Number Look Up and Credit Checking Services

Do you use services that either help you verify a phone number or check on an inquiring guest's credit? I am asking  for 2 reasons:

1. Reverse Phone Look Up Service: I just received a text message on my phone with someone named Leo, claiming to be interested in booking my place and trying to get in touch with me. I am wondering, "How did he get my phone number?" and "Why didn't he go through AirBnB?" Of course, I am pretty suspicious of this type of message, but, with a desire to get a booking I wondered if I could look up the phone number and see if this person was possibly legitimate and maybe on the road. 

2. Credit or financial information checking services:  I have had only 2 or 3 rough spots in my experience with inquiring or requesting guests that I accept over the past 2 years and I wonder if having run a credit checking service of some sort, would have been preventative. 

Any recommendations for these types of services?

1. Don’t know how they got your number- just direct them to Airbnb platform if they want to book.
