Policy for shortening reservation prior to check-in

Hello, I am curious to know if there is an Airbnb policy regarding payment adjustment when changing allotted days on a reservation pre-check in.

I initially booked a property on 4/7/20 around 11:00 PM for a 78 day stay. My work circumstances changed, so on 4/9/20 around 2:00 PM I changed my preferred days to stay to 30. Check-in day remained the same for on 4/13/20.

The adjustment went through immediately on the Airbnb app and I received an updated receipt. A few hours later one of the employees for RabbuCares (the company who run the property I assume) called me to ask if I’d be willing to upgrade properties because a family really wanted to stay in the place I reserved. I looked at the properties she offered, none of which worked well for me.

But anyways, I asked if she saw that I adjusted my dates, to which she gave a pretty strange answer stating “we saw that the new reservation came through, and we all looked at it and were wondering what happened.

and then it just resolved on its

own! We even had our IT team look at it to try and find out what happened.”

So my main point.. I looked at my credit card account and it showed that the exact amount for the initial payment (it was broken up into three payments) on my first reservation (which I later changed) was taken out. That first payment is nearly the entire amount for my new reservation. So I want to know if they are legally obligated to

honor my adjusted reservation and that they are not charging me twice. Please let me know if there is any policy for changing reservation times prior to check-in.

Thank you for reading this long message!

You've signed up to a 'super strict' cancelation policy, @Ben3419 (you'd have seen this when booking). It's pretty clear. The short answer is no, your hosts are not obliged to accept your request to  change dates.

@Gordon0  thank you for your response. I suppose that I didn’t clarify that my new reservation date WAS in fact accepted. My concern however is that the initial due payment for the *first reservation which was 78 days* was charged to my account (down to the penny). But that payment was for the initial reservation, which they agreed to change days prior to check-in.

I’m sure you’re beginning to see my concern here. I also went through every Airbnb policy that I could find and there was very little regarding pre check-in reservation date change policies regarding payment.

The only thing I found on the Airbnb website states, “Whether the reservation is two days or two months away, we hold the payment until 24 hours after check-in before giving it to the host.”

I am not requesting a refund, I’m simply wondering if the payment which they charged (which is mysteriously the exact amount as the first of three payment for the initial agreed upon reservation) will now  go towards our standing agreed upon reservation.
