SUPERHOST STATUS LOST WHILE HOUSING ENERGENCY FIRE VICTIMS
Airbnb Host Community We have been AirBNB Super Host for years. Once the Maui Fires hit in August of 2023 (We are local in Kula), we elected to house FEMA fire victims. We have housed guest for almost a year (at a huge loss of revenue I must add). THEN, We received notice from AirBNB Support we are LOOSING our Super Host status due to not meeting minimum criteria. I have went back and forth with them for 3 days, requesting escalation to a manager/supervisor level. This is unfathomable, bad business and bad policy to punish your Superior Host during a Federal Emergency. I am curious if any of you folks have had similar experiences. I feel as a community we should push back on this.......
I also have an idea which I shared with a non supportive AirBNB support person. If AirBNB does not want to relax SuperHost criteria during emergency times, I am suggesting an "interim" type of a badge, whereby it denotes a "badge of honor" type status when hosting during emergencies but Super Host is inadvertently suspended due to natural events. And to your point, it cost them literally nothing to do, a few changed on the platform code, but would go miles to help SuperHost caught up in the midstream drift.
I agree.... bad business and bad policy to punish a host (AirB&B is profiting from) during a Federal Emergency. I have a feeling you'll get that badge back...as you should!
Much thanks and I sure hope so......I have been continuing to send emails/text to them hoping to get to the "right" guy who can comprehend the situation.
Sadly the AirBNB support person was pretty disengaged and not at all knowledgeable on the situation. Basically just read from a policy manual, with the decision, it seems, was already made just went through the motions.
In fairness, I have had some good support people in the past on other issues, but in this case it is frustrating. Mahalo Kimo
