Strange Situation

Strange Situation

So I'm still new to airbnb and this is my second post on here. I think I may be over-thinking it again. I have a couple that checked in. They seem really nice and all but after their first night they texted me in the morning saying their mattress was wet? So I'm thinking maybe I have a leak?

I check and there is nothing. The mattress is wet with what seems to be spilled water. They suggested that it may be the previous guest and that they probably didn't want to pay for it and so just didn't inform me. I had changed the sheets before they came in, obviously. And didn't noticed any "wet" spots.

Long story short. I happened to have another mattress so I swapped it. After careful thinking I realized that they spilled the water and just lied about it. Probably for several reasons, the fear of having to pay for damages, embarrassment, etc...

Side note: I know the mattress wasn't wet prior to them checking in because my friend slept in the bed after my last guest but before these guys checked in.

I don't really care about the wet mattress because I had a spare and it's just water. It dries. But I'm worried about reviewing at the end of their stay. I don't want them to blame me for a wet mattress when I know it wasn't me. But I also don't want to slam them because I honestly feel that they were just embarrassed and feared having to pay a fee.

Am I being a pushover?

I'd put this down to (a weird) experience, @Shazeena0, and move on. As you say, they seem nice, so it's all a bit odd. No damage done, sort of. Had it been something other than water, maybe a different outcome...

@Shazeena0,

I put on three layers of mattress protection before putting on the sheets: a zippered waterproof anti-bed bug encasement, a waterproof mattress pad, and then another waterproof cover that has an elastic band.  I also put on zippered anti-bed bug waterproof cases on the pillows on top of the regular zippered pillowcase.  These have protected and prolonged the live of our mattresses and pillows, because they are easy to launder whenever a guest has a spill or leak.
