VAT Country issue, not the country I reside. Does anyone know how to change it?

Hi everyone,

I run a small Airbnb in Portugal where I pay taxes and am a fiscal resident, I am from the UK originally but I have moved to and become resident in Spain this year. My VAT receipts from Airbnb all say my VAT country is UK, but I'm assuming this is no longer correct as I don't live there anymore? I have contacted them to change it but they said it isn't something they can do.

Does anyone know what my VAT country should be? Portugal where the listing is or Spain and also how I could go about changing it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've been struggling to get answers on this.

Hi @April666

its hard to tell as you haven't completed your host profile but if you registered your profile in the UK and haven't changed it this maybe the issue.  I thought you could change the location.

do check with your accountant you maybe liable for dual taxation as you are resident in Spain but have a business in Portugal

@Helen3 There will be no dual taxation between Spain and Portugal as both are in the EU. There may however be a need to file taxes in both Portugal, Spain and possibly even the UK!

Thanks for clarifying @Mike-And-Jane0

Hi,

Thank you for the clarification, I think you are right about having to file returns in all 3 countries 😣. Not looking forward to that.

Hi Helen,

Thank you for your reply, I have tried to change my location to Spain in my account information but it doesn't seem to have affected my VAT country. I will have another go trying to change something.
