Vermont proposed new short term rental bill

Hello everyone. Airbnb sent out an email regarding this, but it was filtered into the promotion folder in my Gmail. I wanted to make sure the Vermont Airbnb community was aware and ask for you all to take action. This is the language from the Airbnb email.

The Vermont State Legislature is considering an onerous short-term rental bill that would restrict your ability to rent out any home that isn’t a primary residence (must live in the unit for 270 days). It would also allow departments to authorize officers or agents to inspect a home operating as a short-term rental and its records at any time deemed reasonable by the state.

The bill would also require that hosts pay an annual $130 registration fee, and prominently display the short-term rental license, or certificate, on the outside of the unit.

Lawmakers need to hear from you ahead as they discuss this bill, we’ve made it easy for you to share your story with elected officials using our civic action center.

By only allowing us to rent our properties 30% of the year this new law would make it impossible for many of us to remain hosts. I'm proud of our community ties. I am proud of the money we bring into Vermont both through tourism dollars and taxes. Please join me and use the link below to express to the state legislature how bad this bill is for the people of Vermont.

Increasing number of cities and areas have these sort of restrictions as the rapid growth of  the STR market continues to cause increases in house prices, making it more difficult for local people to find homes and impacting on community structures.

In London we have restrictions of 90 days for STRs in whole listings @Paula1689  Many let out to students/corporates/ longer term rentals the rest of the year.
