Last year, if we had unbooked dates approaching, we were given the option of setting discounts for a short time, maybe 7-10 days, with discount rates being maybe 8% or 11% etc. This was good, we liked it. But recently, we no longer get this showing up.
Instead, we get:
a) Boost your chance of getting long-term bookings by 97%, Add 21% discount - we're happy making more money from the 3-14 night stays than from longer stays
b) Boost your bookings by 36% for February, Change to Price Tips - price tips are so low we would be losing money, we'll never use price tips
c) Feb 14 - 17 are popular travel dates, Unblock dates - we get this on properties that are closed for winter
We have a lot of properties, so we get a lot of these "Ways to earn more", which are actually "Ways to earn less".
We select "No thanks" for each one, but they reappear every time we look at the calendar.
Does anyone know why these "Ways to earn less" keep coming up and if there is any way to permanently get rid of them?
And does anyone know why the short term small discounts are no longer showing up?
Hi @Trevor243
I"ve also noticed the offer to give a discount via airbnb promoting it seems to have disappeared lately.
No idea why. Porbably because they are having no end of banking and accounts difficulties - there are heaps of hosts not receiving their payouts = perhaps all their energies are beign devoted to trying to sort out that huge mess?
Re the price tips etc, my advice is to not even open them, or look at them let alone select "no Thanks"
I think the more you activate the buttons respond the more they keep coming ( even though you don't actually take up their"offer")
Worse still, very early on in my hosting, I hit the "no thanks" button, when i got an email suggesting I open up Christmas Day and Boxing day on my calendar. I had these days blocked out for months - we had family staying. About 2 minutes after hitting "no thanks", I got an IB for those dates at some ridiculously low price. Yes, "impossible" to happen, but not much consolation when it DOES.
I rang aribnb CS support in a panic. The dates were cancelled, supposedly with no penalty to me, but a few days later I noticed that I had lost my IB function even though it was still showing on my profile.
It remained deactivated for over 2.5 weeks during peak season while the "technical team investigated" No one ever bothered to contact me to let me know it was back on again - I had to discover for myself be constantly testing via another account
As a result, I am loathe to push ANY airbnb automated button. The platform is SO full of glitches, particularly at the moment, that i personally think its inviting trouble.
Just my experience and opinon
Regards
I definitely agree with the need to PERMANENTLY get rid of certain tips.
ABB should maybe have "remind me later" "do not show again" as options.
The "suggested rates" here are ridiculous, they want me to lower my 3 bedroom townhome to like $51/night... get lost. The absolute lowest I've gone is in the 70's and that brought some unfavorable guests.
And I constantly get a "Feb XX - Feb XX are popular dates - consider unblocking them!" - No! I have them blocked for a reason, I have family coming in from out of town. If I wanted to rent them out, I'd have them unblocked. Having to "dismiss" this EVERY. SINGLE. LOGIN. is annoying AF.
@Trevor243 @Tommy150 I don't understand why you think you have to click on "No Thanks" or "dismiss" these stupid tips, or why they bother you so much. They are just typical Airbnb stuff, trying to get hosts to lower prices so more people will book and Airbnb will collect more service fees.
I just totally ignore those "tips". I don't even look at them.
I do agree that the one urging us to unblock dates has to be the most imbecilic- I can't imagine what dummy came up with that one. Obviously if we have dates blocked, it's for a reason and some Airbnb message isn't going to change that.
@Sarah977I manage a lot of properties and more to come. I want to use the short / near term discounts sometimes - they work, they're useful - but, we're not getting them. There are normally about 5 pointless "Ways to earn less" for each property in the calendar, that we have to scroll through to see if there is a useful offer we can use. That's a lot of scrolling or clicking on "No thanks", only to find the same pointless things there immediately after we've rejected them. It should be easy for AirBnB to program their systems to not display something we've dismissed .....
A strange thing has happened .... these "Ways to earn less" kept showing up for months, same things day after day .... clicking "No thanks" did nothing, they just came straight back ..... and after posting in here, they're all gone .... disappeared .... coincidence? Hmmmm .....
