i am wondering how this works legally? i have not seen any info from the county on this and as far as i know we are not allowed to air bnb our house as we are not licenced for it. Nor do we want to be as we are not wanting to be air bnb hosts. However during this crisis we may consider it as a way to reach people but need detailed info on the legal aspect, tax implications of renting your principal residence and how this would affect us long term? what is the country requiring of us if we do this? how would it change our current position where we are live in owners?
If you want to list your property on Airbnb for financial gain during the crisis in Hawaii then you have to set up a listing on Airbnb and comply with local STR legislation @Nicole3264
your accountant can advise you on your tax liabilities.
if you want to help residents who have been made homeless or aid workers and firefighters for example for free I would contact local charities helping on the ground. I believe you can register on airbnb.org if you are not a host.
