Why is airbnb subject to US law but booking.com isn't?

Hello,

I would like to ask the question above: why does airbnb comply with us law in the states where they operate but booking.com isn't?

I made the mistake of reserving a unit with booking.com

After a day, I could not access the unit because the building main door was defective. It took the manager (who has no customer service skills) 12 hours to inform me i could now go back to the unit. My children and I spent the night 25 minutes away from the unit because we did not isn't to stay in the car all night (the manager was contacted around 8:30pm). I checked out as soon as I could re-enter the unit. Booking.com at first led me to believe I would be refunded.

After weeks of having me run around, they finally said I would get 10% of the refund. I asked what state they are under some I could file a formal complaint, they said no state! I can send a complaint in Amsterdam because they operate in the US but apparently they are not subject to any US state law. How is that right? Airbnb would have quickly refunded me.

Are the lawyers of Airbnb able to check why their competition (booking.com) can operate in the US but they do not have to be under any legal jurisdiction? I'd be happy to provide you more details if anyone wants to look into it. Let me know below and I will cannot the customer service number with screenshots of conversations.  This should not happen to anyone else.

This is a community for Airbnb guests and hosts. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Booking.com.

have a look at their complaints procedure and how you can raise issues with them @Madji11
