Thanks so much for sharing that @Jane4619 👋
Having high-quality furniture must really enhance the experience for your guests and create a welcoming atmosphere. It's wonderful that you prioritise their comfort and aim to provide a unique space for them to enjoy. Do you get lots of lovely reviews off the back of it?
I bought a $3k leather couch (sale price) and a few new fake leather pieces from Amazon as leather is easier to clean. Don’t allow pets. The couch was still stained pretty fast (small spot) and I’m too afraid of bad reviews/ pissed off clients to ask for a damage payments from guests unless it’s something really bad. Had to stick my head inside the fireplace and put back the flue bar (got covered in ash) bc some really stupid guest totally unscrewed it. Also hear the air cover thing is BS and does nothing.
We used a combination of both. The Sofa was second hand, pots, crockery & cutlery but the sheets, mattress and towels were all new.
A combination of old and new work well. I prefer not to use the term 2n̈d hand. Reason is simple and different than you might think. The idea is all about design; you are trying to create the kind of space that will make your guest feel invited, special and relaxed. I found that old and new work well. As a home builder and designer, like Rome, your home was notbbuilt in a day. Create the space you want by stumbling upon the pieces that will make it magical. Be patience, you dontnhave to spend a lot to make a big statement
My Airbnb was my mothers home (she sadly passed away) and she had some great quality furniture and appliances that were not that old. I bought some second hand furniture that was also in great condition and built to last and upcycled some to look modern. I put in new mattresses, linens, towels, throws, cushions and rugs of really good quality, so that my listing feels like home, comfortable, yet great quality. Some furniture that we get in Australia is now not built to last so I would rather well built furniture that will stand the test of time. Comments that I get is that the house is cozy and feels like home.
Hi @Rebecca
I enjoy combining old and new furniture in our Airbnb units. I love taking on refurbishing projects, like restoring old lamps and dining tables. It’s not only a creative challenge but also a great way to reduce our carbon footprint.
We completely renovated our garage apartment and furnished with everything new. We felt we would get a longer-life out of new items. Our guests have been wonderful and left great reviews!!!
Hi,
That's a great question.
We use both new & used as long as the item is in excellent, usable condition. Of course it also depends on the item. Somethings shows wear and tear much more visible. Those should replaced more frequently. Unless some item is meant to be an 'antique', then still needs to be in pretty good clean & usable condition - like old clock. Nothing should ever be dusty or have moldy odors. If you are local to your Airbnb & handy, you can save a lot in may areas by refreshing items.
Ask yourself 'How would it look if I go to an Airbnb and see this item? Would I love it or hate it?"
A combination of new and used.
Hi @James1146! 👋
Hope your day is going well! Where do you get the new furniture from? This might give some ideas to the rest of the members. 🙂
Best wishes,
Alex
Hello everyone, currently we have an architect in our team who always helps us find the best options, we have bought new items and we have recycled many, the other time an old table was reused to make the kitchen table by placing new tiles on the old table, the old lamps were woven and were left with a spectacular Tulum style.
I think you can apply any strategy as long as you have good taste and follow a decorative style
Hi everyone. I use a combination of new and lightly used furnishings.
Mostly new. Old items are hard to replace and their value is in the item not the cost. Try claiming Airbnb cover on a piece of furniture bought at an estate sale that you will never find again. What you paid for it is mostly likely way less than a new item that is not as good.

I am using vintage cast iron set of patio furniture. I am having all of it powder coated red.
