Gas or wood burning outdoor firepit

Hi Fellow Hosts!

We host in North Carolina.   Picture this: we have a large backyard with an open space ideal for a firepit. We would like to create an inviting environment for our guests to relax in the back yard with chairs, lights and a firepit. The yard is currently marginally landscaped.  We do have a separate area with outdoor dining and BBQ.

Do any of you provide this amenity?
Should we use propane, or natural wood?

Do you have them sign a separate waiver?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences,

Penny

@Penny453   Propane.  You would not believe how many guests have no idea what to do with a fire, and who will actually WALK AWAY with the fire still going.  At least if you offer it as propane, they may have the common sense to turn it off, although we had one guest who left our grill on all week.

If you go with wood, you will want to post the local NC Fire Marshal website for checking on when you can have a burn.

True propane may be a better option!
Thank you Lorna
