Just added a few house plants and love them! It was fun picking them out. There were so many options!
So do you have house plants? Do you and guest like them? Please share a picture even if lighting isn't good!
Do you prefer artificial or real? How old are they and do you need to re pot them as they grow? These are in the plastic containers that sit inside the ceramic ones. That way after watering them the ceramic pot catches the water and has plastic plug over the hole in the bottom.
@Kirsten266 How wonderful! That’s a sneaky tip Ive learned. In growing regions you can often find self seeding happens along the verge. I got some lovely cotton stalks last summer, they last for years as decor.
@John5097 suggestion, talk to the nursery person about the best plant for you and the amount of light you have in the room. A strong succulant or a strong leafed plant are good starters, they are sturdy and can take a bit of neglect. Ask your friends or neighbours for a cutting and get a couple started. It takes about 6 months.
@John5097 I have a lot of real house plants and a few fakes in a loft area that is difficult to water. The real ones seem to do fine.
Just a little giggle for you: Traveling restrictions started opening up and since week 2 of March it’s been a dead zone for rentals so I started my vegetable (and some flower) seedlings in the Airbnb which adjoins my unit and has the best light and space. We just got an unexpected one night booking for tomorrow so I have to move 147 seedling pots.
@Normen0 That is so funny! A great way to use the space! Hope its a great vegetable garden!
Oh boy, John I have the perfect plant for you!
It's called in Australia, 'Zanzibar Gem'.....and it thrives on neglect!
I am not kidding, here is the promotional plant label......
It's literature says, just put it in a corner somewhere and forget about it. It require watering 3 times a year.....once during winter and twice during summer. If you over water it it will die.
Here it is 7 months since purchase and we have only watered it once......
This is the epitome of the maintenance free indoor plant.
Cheers.........Rob
I've never heard of plant that requires so little water. Amazing plant! And that one looks very nice! Thanks for sharing!
There is a black version of this plant , its called the Raven ZZ plant.
@Robin4 @Quincy Turns out I have one of these at home too! 🌱
@John5097 I have a really bad habit of killing plants one way or another, but this one has resisted my chaotic and very sparse care. If you're after a (very very) low-maintenance plant, I can only echo Robin's words - this one's a solid candidate. 😉

@John5097 I have the same one! Well many of them now. Purchased one at Walmart 12 years ago. Thrives so well and keeps replicating. I’ve given some to guests who have commented on it.
I did have plants, but with some guests extending the stay beyond two weeks, the plants were close to death when the guests had left. Only artificial plants are left unless I know it will be a shorter stay.
I have to say, I don't understand the concept of artificial plants. I understand not having plants in an Airbnb if guests let them die, but what is the point of fake plants? They're just a dust collector, like having useless knickknacks.
@Sarah977 I have the strangest space to fill. It’s an open loft with no access except by ladder. We did not design this space. Faux plants fit the bill. Yes they require some dusting but otherwise it’s too bare. In December I add about 20 lit a Christmas trees of various sizes up there for the winter months. I use lit birch trees and faux plants in the other months Here is a photo before the other fix plants were added Id be happy for other suggestions too!
I have live plants. I usually rent the house on weekends because we have a lake house. I do the cleaning and so I can also water the plants. I choose the pathos because it is a low maintenance plant and is said to bring good fortune and money to the house. Another name for it is the money plant. Guests don't really seem to say to much about the plants themselves but they really seem to enjoy our space
