Airbnb Open -- Getting Around LA

You can get around LA without a car. One of LA's hidden gems is its Metro rail system.  The hub of Airbnb Open is a short walk from the Metro Rail Red and Purple Line station at Pershing Square.

The LA Metro Rail is very affordable -- $1.75 per person per trip and a trip includes changing trains or buses in one direction for two hours.

My partner and I do a blog about things that are accessible via LA Metro Rail. Thanks in advance for looking at our blog ... it will show you how to use the TAP card machines (https://metroduo.wordpress.com/riding-metro-101/) and give an overview map of the Metro Rail system (https://metroduo.wordpress.com/metro-maps-getting-around/)

The best bet is to choose a place to stay that is near a Metro Rail line.  There is also a system called Metro Link that is a commuter train serving some other areas, but has limited hours because it mostly serves commuters. And, of course, there are buses. So with some research, and hopefully tips from your local hosts, you can avoid the traffic and parking stresses of LA.

If you are staying in a neighborhood that is not served by Metro rail (such as Silver Lake, Echo Park, Glassel Park, Glendale, Atwater Village, Eagle Rock, for example), you will need to investigate the bus routes for getting to a Metro rail station or to downtown LA.
Metro LA has a website at metro.net, but it is often easiest to first put in your location and destination on Google maps and click the transit option for getting directions. This will show you the buses, then you can cross check these on the Metro site.

Of course, there is always Lyft and Uber to fill in the gap to get you to a Metro station.

There is a great phone app called Next Bus which shows the bus arrivals in real time. Metro also has a phone app for this.

We hope you will have a great time in LA and enjoy exploring our county via Metro rail. We will be commuting from Pasadena via Metro rail -- 3 trains, but an easy ride. If the downtown Airbnb listings are getting scarce, don't be afraid to venture out -- for example, along the Gold LIne you will find Lincoln Heights, Highland Park and Pasadena; along the Red and Purple lines you will find lots of options further out from downtown and won't need to change trains to get to Open; or you can stay near the beach off the Expo Line and only change trains once. Trains run until 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays ...
