Check in

Hi community, recently it seems Airbnb has added an option for guest to request a check in time different from what is listed in the hosts rules section. The request comes together with the reservation request. In addition to being often overlooked (very small print), it means that the host that can not accommodate the guest at those times, would have to deny the reservation only because the times won't work. This has consequences for the host listing, as too many denials mean lower ranking, and possibly other penalities? I've called Airbnb and sent a formal feedback, but apparently there is nothing that I can do. I usually can not accept early check in. What is the point of setting my check in interval if the guest can go ahead and ignore it during the request to book. Has any experienced this as a problem? How are you dealing with it?

@Lena60,

It's a common feature on most platforms during the payment process where guests can notify the host of their expected check-in time and make special requests for early check-in and late checkouts.  Just inform the guest that you cannot support their request, and it's their responsibility to cancel, and they are agreeing to the check-in terms if they don't cancel.   Hosts are only obligated to allow check-ins during the listed timeframe.

Hi Lena,

I was not even aware that this can occur and looking at my own listing I can't even see the possibilities of guest changing times.

I however occasionally had guests ask through the messaging on the platform if they can check in early than my 4:00 usually I can accommodate them though rarely had to decline.

I wish I could give you more advice and will be following to see what others say about this.

Thanks for bringing this up.
