Offer discount to guest for taking care of pet

I am wondering if I could airbnb my house and give a discount for people to take care of my dog and cat. Has anyone ever done this? I have had petsitters in the past but am thinking that since I live in a tourist area that it might work to have someone who could just let the pets in and out.

Hi @Elaine890 ,

Have you gone ahead and put your listing on Airbnb?

Since it has been a while, did you get any advice about offering discounts to guests for taking care of your pet?

I took the liberty of changing the title of your post so that other members can notice it and offer some helpful pieces of advice.

No, I haven't heard from anyone and was not sure about whether one could do this or not. Still hoping to get some replies. Thanks for changing the title!

I have replied to you . See my post above @Elaine890

Yes, thanks. And I wasn't thinking about leaving them with just anyone. I would discuss it with the people but have decided that it wouldn't work since I need a longer period of time. Also, I am not taking the animals - especially the cat - since he just goes out in the morning and comes back at night and won't even get in a carrier. He was a cat we found outside and just wants to be around the house. Thanks for your reply..

Personally I would never leave strangers to look after my pets.  @Elaine890

As a pet lover I'm sure you know looking after a pet is so much more than 'just letting them in out'. Pets need feeding, dogs need walking, you need to clean up their Pooh etc.

you don't know if guests will be around when your pets want to go in and out.

why not take your pets to where you're be staying ? @Elaine890

I have the exact same question. I have heard of people doing this, but there's no way to search for any examples (or at least I haven't figured out how). I think there are a lot of cat lovers out there who'd be delighted to rent a place for 50% the going rate to care for a very low maintenance cat (vs having a pet sitter show up). I know this is what trustedhousesitters.com does, but I am looking for as many options as possible, since the dates have to work out. I would be very appreciative for some guidance & any applicable regulations governing this sort of thing. Thank you.
